Game 47 Recap - DBacks 5, Braves less
I am not one to bandwagon when on specific topics when things are down, but I mean we need another bat of some kind. It says something when you have three OFs who have OPS under .700 and you literally have no internal options to replace them. It also says something when I seriously think calling up Jason Heyward would be better than this. (I don't really want to do that, but I do think he could post a better OPS than any of the guys out there right now). The thing is, when we have everyone in the lineup we are solid, and we have one of the best benches in baseball when they are healthy. But how many games this year have we had Chipper, Escobar and Heap all in there on one night. 10 games?
Anyways, Lowe got knocked around a bit tonight and yet he still made it 7 innings. Honestly I stopped watching after a while so I don't know how the defense was behind him. We looked pretty good early on getting some hits off of Haren but then allowed 15 straight batters to be set down between the 3rd and 8th. Kelly was about the only bright spot in this one knocking two doubles. Hopefully he is coming around and can help pick up some slack in the offense.
Also one final note. If you have been getting posts deleted and don't know why check out the side bar with the fanposts. I have one up explaining some basic rules right now and Andy Braves Fan has been kind enough to set up a perma post for all your rosterbation/couch coach needs. Please don't post any new trade scenarios or 'I'm fed up with the offense' fanposts. Just vent in a game thread or in one of the designated fanposts. Thank you.

Good point about when everyone is in the lineup, its not that bad.
We REALLY need a bat. If we could add a bat like Brad Hawpe for Gorkys Hernandez, Mortonl and a decent prospect like Brandon Hicks, our lineup wouldn’t be bad.
It’s getting to the point where we almost expect to lose every game we play with our shitty offense and inconsistent bullpen.
I wonder what our record is with chip, esco and mac in the lineup and what it is without all 3 of them?
"Jason Heyward might be the best offensive prospect i've seen in fifteen years. His game is solid. I would trade any of the current players we have on our 25 man roster for Heyward. He's that good." - NL Scout.
I realize Kelly hit 2 doubles but he also booted a ball that probably cost us the game.

Well since we can’t add anymore fan post about it I’ll say it here. This offense stinks. I will say this in defense we did face three great (don’t know if you call Randy great anymore) pitchers in the past four games and they did pitch well but holy crap does this offense suck.
also does anyone notice that there has been a lot less fan post in the last week since the hammer came down on the rosterbation
I didn't watch the game, and I'm glad
I checked the boxscore on my phone while I was shooting zombies, and this is what I saw

I didn’t even look at the names of 6-7-8-P, because I kinda figured who they probably were.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Goodbye .500
I’d bet we have the worst 6-7-8 in the league. I’m almost glad when the pitcher’s spot comes up. How can you expect to win with a black hole for half of the lineup?
Please let us beat up on Garland tonight. Although Chipper may need to sit if he’s still hurting from the right side. Why didn’t he just bat lefty against the Unit if it hurt so much?
If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).
Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.
As long as the Braves can hang around .500, I think they still have a chance. Call me crazy, but I’d rather the Braves hang around the middle for now, and then pick up momentum and take it in August-September. If absolutely no substantial moves are made, I will be surprised, but I have faith that something is eventually going to happen that will improve the bottom of the order.
Out of curiosity, anyone know of any recent instances where a switch-hitter really did forego the match-ups, and just play to a pitcher’s scouted weakness? Because with Chipper, even if he’s hurt and suffering from the right side, if a lefty comes up, he is batting righty, no matter what. I’d love to see a switch-hitter come up to face like, Mike Remlinger who was oddly stronger against lefties than righties, and decide to bat righty-against-righty. I honestly can’t remember ever seeing that happen.

I’ve seen it, but I can’t remember when. Pretty sure it was in a minor league game. Anyway, Chipper is a natural right handed hitter, and his swing is actually much more fundamental from that side, so I could see why he personally wouldn’t want to abandon it.

I have
seen it a few times when a batter faces Tim Wakefield.

arrrgggg....
Did you have to tell them to vent in the game thread? Can’t we have a “I want to sound like I’m an such an expert on baseball and the Braves that I can talk about how worthless they are in every way possible even though the stats or even common sense doesn’t back it up” perma-fanpost? Because the game threads are becoming almost unbearable with the constant whining and people trying to out-do each other with how horrrrrribbbly our team sucks. Okay, I get the right-fielder stuff. He deserves it, and continues to give ammunition. But most of the rest is just irritating, because the next time we win three in a row, the same people either won’t be there, or they will be starting petitions to get the whole team in the All Star Game. All the mini-bandwagon jumpers are just killing me. I’m sorry, I’ll be quiet now.
What about the people that refuse to see the bad in anything? They’re the ones who drive me insane

It's the ones...
…who are both, depending on the win/lose streak, that are driving me crazy. Also, not sure if you are talking about me, but if so, I definitely see the bad, and I just don’t want to pound it into the ground (with a rusty nail).
Oh no, I’m talking about the people who shout anyone down who talks ill about the right fielder, like he’s still the holy child

For some reason....
….I have this feeling that the right fielder’s days are numbered. I haven’t really been keeping up with any possible trade rumors or anything, it’s just some sense I have that he’s a goner. I hope my sixth sense is working correctly.
I’m already feeling the “he’s already dead, he just doesn’t know it yet” from the RF situation.

Couldn’t agree with you more.
People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.
Seriously…the FYF, Diory, Schafer strikeouts in the 2nd inning were some of the worst ABs I’ve ever seen.

Somebody get Jayson Stark to tell FW who this scout works for...
• On Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur: “I’m one of the people who thinks he still has plenty left in the tank. All I know is, he was on a decent roll in spring training, when he went 48, 49 straight plate appearances without a punchout. Now it’s like he’s fallen back into his old habits. He’s going back to what got him in trouble in the first place.”
Of course Bobby’s last word was “punchout”. The rest is redacted garbage.

I admire Bobby’s literature when referring to his players, because we all know he’s trying to inspire confidence and faith in his boys, but I lol’d at this.
He also uses “lights-out” to refer to any pitcher whether it’s Blaine Boyer to Javier Vazquez. And recently, he said Tom Glavine was “lights-out,” in a bullpen situation. Maybe one of his blazing 82 mph fastballs hit a bulb or something, but he’s going to have a hard time convincing me that Glavine now is anything close to “lights-out.”

Its gotten to the point where I don’t give a shit about what he does on the field, because his attitude is so horrible about everything. He also has no baseball IQ and is as dumb as a rock.

I just talked to Bubb Rubb, and he said he misses everyone. Hopefully the Braves will let him come back soon.

Ok, I’ll vent. Right now I just feel like this team is, well, weak. Offensively speaking, that is. Any lead the other team has just feels insurmountable. It’s fairly obvious that we need some sort of roster move, but what? I think Schafer has a good swing and will eventually work things out, but with the guys we have manning the corner spots right now, his struggles are magnified. He is really pressing. I won’t even discuss French, I’m sick to death of griping. As far as GA, he always seems to be somewhere else, always looking off in the distance. Probably towards California. There, I’m done.
Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a s#!t about the rules?!?
