Open Thread 5/28: Braves @ Diamondbacks
Derek Lowe goes up against Darn Haren tonight in what could turn out to be a battle of staff aces. The Diamondbacks are currently 4th in the very bad NL West but they are 6-4 in their last 10 games and their offense is prone to break out with 9 and 10 runs games (as we learned in a 12-0 lost a couple weeks ago).
As of writing this (@ 1:30), there is no word yet on what Chipper and Escobar will be up to tonight. Chipper's toe has been giving him some discomfor lately and he posted his first career 4 K game yesterday. Escobar's hip is still bothering him though he has been able to take some batting practice in the past few days. Hopefully we will see him tonight.
Something really needs to shake up the offense.

why call mccann heap?
- A nickname given by his minor-league teammates, we’ve heard it comes from several sources. One, he can sleep anywhere, anytime, two, he’s…not the neatest boy, and three, he eats “heaps” of food.
How is your brother?
"Life is an adventure. It's not the destination we reach that's most rewarding. It's the journey along the way."---"Memories are all that's left... LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH!!!!"
Hey HeyJude, thanks for asking. It was a very long day, but he’s home resting and doing well.
He’ll have a few uncomfortable days, but should heal quickly.
Alarm was 4:15 am this morning, so I’m running on fumes for this late start…hopefully the Braves offense will explode and make it an exciting game and keep me awake.
He had an unexpected hernia rupture in his groin. They repaired it today and doc said by 4 weeks he should be back to his usual work/activities. His first EVER surgery and visit to the hospital (never broken a bone, had stitches or even major dental work) and he’s 35 – so today was major deal to him LOL.
Wow, I hope everything goes ok with that. It must have been nice not having any surgery until you were 35 though
Rupture and groin are two words a man never wants to hear in the same sentence. I’m glad he is ok though!
People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.
If Wren were to trade for a bat, who would you guys give up; or better yet, who for you would be “untouchable”
Hanson, Johnson, Freeman, Heyward from the minors. I wouldn’t mind anyone on the major league roster being traded except for Mac, Chip, Kotch, and the rotation.
gosh guys
use the trading thread for this…i have about had it with all of the tradegasms and rosterbating that I can handle.

I have a gut feeling Frenchy is on his way out…….
"Life is an adventure. It's not the destination we reach that's most rewarding. It's the journey along the way."---"Memories are all that's left... LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH!!!!"
I saw him in an interview before the game and frenchy said he would play for any team in the MLB that wanted him…kinda strange comment.
Plus a ton of rumors… not looking to good for him here in ATL.

OT – but had to tell you I have your “Life, Love Laugh” on a plaque on the wall in my kitchen.
Happy I’m not getting chewed up and spit out about it!
Last night my last one sent someone in a darn rage.
I changed it as not to offend this person again!!

Awesome.
Baltimore is definitely on my list of places/ballparks to see. I was hoping to be able to sneak down there for that series and then over to Boston for that series since I’m much closer now than when I lived in Atlanta, but that’s not going to happen…
I believe there are more coming.

Yeah, game over.
Guess what, this team SUCKS. The early success we experienced was anomalous. Kawakami is going to have an awful year, we are going to regret not signing Dunn, Schafer is up in the MLB too early, Francoeur shouldn’t be a starter, our first baseman has NO power (like the rest of our lineup), Gonzo isn’t what he used to be, and Medlen isn’t as special as everyone on here made him out to be.
Just needed to get that out of my system…

We don’t necessarily need to make trades, but we need to get rid of Frenchy and Kelly has been bad at 2nd, he should be in LF. We have a pretty good farm system.

The Braves are going to go 0fer on this road trip
Then when all hope is lost they will win just enough games to hover around .500 to continue the mediocrity
always happens. i mean whats sad is that every other team on a skid is going down with injuries. Phililes have no starters. Mets are losing core players left and right.
We suck with our full rotation, bullpen, and Lineup. Esco goes out we still suck. Chip goes out we are garbage.

by UltimaParadox on May 28, 2009 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions
If they have the balls to sit the fans golden boy they need to sit the other ones stinking it up.
Seriously. either we re-haul our lineup or we have a firesale. plain and simple. we wont get by tolerating mediocrity.
Schafer is not cutting it. DEF or not he isnt cutting it he is a liability and in fact the last two games he has taken bad routes all over the place.
I would rather have less range in CF, More in LF and keep FYF than continue with this crap.
Ankiel and Willingham need to be our CF and LF. end of discussion.
Our bullpen will hopefully be better with Campillo and Acosta but our offense is terrible.

The Cubs scored four in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, but lost in 11 innings, 13-12, when a popup bounced off Aramis Ramirez’s head.

SportsNation Keith Law: They tried to get him to leave, but they told him to “take a walk,” and he was just hopelessly confused.
