Game 45 Recap - Giants 4, Braves 0
I'm sure we all feel like Kris does over there right now. The Braves got owned by Tim Lincecum, plain and simple. There was nothing anyone could do to stop the Timmy Train. The Braves had a couple of opportunities to get some runs across, but 2 of those opportunities with RISP came with the pitcher's spot in the order up, and we know how that turned out due to the lack of Infante.
Kris Medlen pitched better last night. Not great, but better. His horrible second inning really doomed him, and he's pulling a Reyes in the fact that he seems to not be able to pitch effectifvely with runners on base. Heres a fun little stat: with men on, Medlen is allowing a OPS of 1.333, while with the bases empty, the number drops to .345. Very small sample size yes, but its telling. Jojo Reyes's splits aren't as telling, only a 140 point spike, but the numbers are horrible either way.
In news bound to please many people around here, the Braves placed Buddy Carlyle on the 15 day DL and brought Jorge Campillo off. Carlyle has been a disaster lately, and hopefully Campillo can help provide some long relief to the pen that has strugged with it lately.

Buddy needs a break. Welcome back, Campillo. Let’s not get swept by the Giants.

I’m sick of staying up for these.
If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).
Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.
lol, I love it when a player goes on the DL for no obvious reason other than the fact that they have been sucking. And it’s always relievers too. Bob Wickman, Joe Borwoski, etc.
The Braves got beaten by the reigning National League Cy Young winner. Yeah, it sucks to lose, but let’s face it, it shouldn’t come as any surprise to get beaten by a really, really good pitcher. Just hope for a salvage tonight, the Braves have typically fared decently against the Unit.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I was really impressed when Jojo pulled his hammy the day before Medlen had to brought up. You usually don’t see the phantom injuries occur live, but JoJo pulled (bad pun) it off peferctly.

He sold it horribly, though. He was back in the dugout with a normal expression on his face. He could’ve been writhing in pain and acting like this mother was shot and killed, like a professional soccer player, and required the trainer and Matt Diaz to come out and help him into the dugout or something, not casually strolling back into the dugout where the cameras follow you sitting back on the bench to take a mouthful of sunflower seeds.

Did you say something about soccer injuries?

Except for that one time…
except for the no hitter?
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

He supposedly has a neck strain that he has been dealing with since that collision last year. Apparently has been affecting his mechanics and velocity for the last six weeks

While I didn’t watch the game, just glancing at the numbers it looks like Medlen pitched better. After giving up 4 runs, he over 2 scoreless innings, so I’d say he’s making small strides. Don’t want to take too much away from Medlen, but don’t the Giants have one of the worst offenses?
Not sure he’ll get more pitching opps, but I think he’ll improve with each start.
after that horrible second inning
in which a 2 out walk to the pitcher loaded the bases and led to all 4 runs, he retired the next 11 batters he faced…then was lifted by Cox.

Better to pull him too early than too late. And its not like the bullpen did horribly and blew the game.

Josh Anderson has a higher OPS than our entire outfield. And he went 4/5 today.
We got hosed. We got hosed.
Yeah he’s playing like a man on a mission.

I get your point, but he had a .680 OPS coming into today…not exactly setting the world on fine.
