Gwinnett - Off
Mississippi 3, Montgomery 6
- W. Cabrera 1-4 2B, BB
- B. Hicks 3-3 2B, BB, 2 SB(8)
- S. Diamond 5IP 6H 2R 2BB 4K
I think Brandon Hicks might be making some strides at the plate. His AVG is up a little this month though his SLG is down slightly. What is big for me though is he has cut his Ks nearly in half this month from 26 in 65 AB to 13 in 57 AB this month. A good sign I think and also a respectable amount, not just a general reduction. I am not real sure what to think about Scott Diamond right now. I think he is pitching about as well as he was last season but his BABIP is .378 right now so his hits allowed is a bit inflated. He is still one of my favorite pitching prospects but he will probably get lost in the shuffle with everyone else.
Myrtle Beach 3, Winston-Salem 6
- J. Heyward 3-4 2B
- C. Johnson 2-4
- C. Miles 1-3 HR(1), 2 RBI
Jason Heyward continues hitting well with a .343 AVG in his last ten games with 6 BB and 3 K. Even when his base stats don't look great the guy actually seems to be getting better. Cody Johnson hasn't been as solid lately with a .237 AVG and a 1/16 BB:K in the last 10. He has still hit 4 homers but I fell this is more in line with his actual production. Eric Cordier finally had a bad start giving up 5 runs in 4IP.
Asheville 6, Rome 1
- L. Sumoza 1-4 2B, 2K
- Z. Spruill 4IP 9H 6R 1BB 1K
Zeke Spruill finally collects his first loss as a professional. The Rome defense is really bad and Zeke is a an extreme GB pitcher (and yes I know, you guys said that about Locke last night) and those two things normally don't mix well, but it doesn't look like he was fooling anyone really. As great as he is at getting ground balls Scott Diamond is actually better if you can believe that!
