Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 5/18

Gwinnett 4, Lehigh Valley 3

In this game we have a pretty solid start from Charlie Morton. Nothing too spectacular, just him going out and putting up a quality start and keeping his team in the game. Funny that Morton also gives up more fly balls than grounders, just like Medlen and Hanson. Diory Hernandez did have two stolen bases in this game but that is about all there was for offense other than Clint Sammons getting two sac flies.

Mississippi 4, Montgomery 5 - Game 1 - 7 Innings

Man Hernandez just keeps on raking! I made a statement a couple days ago that I wanted to see Hernandez in Atlanta by the end of the year but I didn't mean permanently, just a call up in September. Something like that isn't out of the question and if he keeps hitting like this, is actually likely. Anyways, Jonny Venters got knocked around a little in this one by giving up a couple homers. I'll post game 2 when it ends.

Mississippi 4, Montgomery 5 - Game 2 - 7 Innings

I don't really have much to say about this one.

Myrtle Beach 4, Winston-Salem 1

• E. Osuna 7IP 3H 1R 0BB 4K

Edgar Osuna has given up 2 runs in his last 13 innings along with only 4 hits and a walk. Not bad sir. I like Osuna, but he doesn't really throw hard and we will really have to see how he does at AA when he does get promoted there before we can tell if he will be any good or not. Also I am excited to see Jon Owings hitting, he is one of my favorite guys even if he isn't a big prospect.

Rome 4, Greenville 1 - Game 1 - 7 Innings

The two catchers got the job done with the bats today. Jesus Sucre is probably someone we need to talk about. I thought he was older than he is, but I just looked him up and he is only just turned 21 at this point. He is hitting .324 at this point but without a whole lot of power or real on base ability outside his BA so we will have to see how he pans out.

Rome 2, Greenville 1 -  Game 2 -  7 Innings

Chris Shehan is starting to turn his season around a little. His OPS is still under .600 on the season (he was really really bad in April) but this month it is almost .800 and he has gone from a 20:1 K:BB last month to 9:6 this month. Nice improvement!
