The Fans' Confidence in the Atlanta Braves at 76 Percent to Start the Season
Last Friday we took our first Fan Confidence Poll, which asked all readers of Talking Chop to gauge their confidence in the Atlanta Braves organization. After tabulating the results of the 48 hour poll, the average came out to 7.6 or 76%. That's pretty good confidence, though it will be interesting to see how high it soars this Friday, especially if we can sweep Philly this afternoon.
For reference, the Mets fans' confidence is at 7.8.

Shocker that the Braves blogger would pick the Mets. It’s amazing the hard-on Braves fans have for hating the Mets. The nerve of that guy to talk about depth. What ‘depth’ do the Braves have? Half of their rotation has little to no experience. Javier Vasquez went 12-16 last year with an ERA just under 5. The Japanese kid they signed has no MLB experience. To say that the Mets have no depth, especially coming from a Braves fan is laughable. Here is the Braves bench:
Clint Sammons
Omar Infante
Martin Prado
Greg Norton
Jordan Schafer

No surprise there.
You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the goddamn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all.

Our bench must not negate the fact that brian schneider = mccann (better defense)
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Once more with feeling!
no the mets are still better at most positions:
Schnider/Mcccan – tie (schnider has better d)
Kotch / Delgao – 38 hrs from carlos
Castillo/Johnson – castillo can return to a .300 hitter but jonson barely wins
wright/jones – no contest, wright
reyes/who??? – reyes wins, best ss in the majors
tatis/diaz – tatis raked last year
beltran/anderson – beltran is an all-star
francouer/church – church raked before his concusion he will rebond
santana/lowe – santana is the best sp in the majors
perez/hudson – perez has better potential plus hudson was hurt last yr
pelfrey/jurgens – jurgens gives up 2 many hits
maine/vazquez – vazquez wins barely cuz he had a good 07 but maine has more potential
redding/campillo – redding through more innings, campillo would have a 500 era if he starts again ppl will figur ehim out
k-rod had the most svs, he is the best lcoser in baseball, no contest

Nice catch
I whiffed on that one. I had the same reaction as when I’m driving around and see people with bumper stickers touting a losing politician.
"People need help, and you know how to help them."
Better d...
I should be able to joke about that, but the fact that it makes me so mad to think about how stupid that is prevents me from chuckling at that guy. Let’s just forget that McCann it arguably the best offensive catcher in baseball, and how Schneider is a .700 ops player, while McCann is more like a .900 ops player.
ppl like that guy
are the reason i hate the mets and their fans. schneider is tied with mccann? seriously?? he cant even spell names from his favorite team
Now that's thinking with your dipstick
Unbelievable!!!!
Are you serious with this list? How any all star teams has Schnider been on here lately. McCann is awesome. His defense may be a little suspect but you Mets fans should like someone like that, does the name Mike Piazza ring a bell? Delgado is still playing, I thought he retired. Castillo probably has an edge ill give you that one. Wright no contest against Jones. I dont care how uneducated and how much of a fan you are, there is no doubt that Chipper Jones is one of the greatest Third baseman of his generation. Wright winning a gold glove two years ago was laughable. He had something like 23 errors that year. Give me a break. Admit it David playing in NY with that media bias isnt always that bad. Reyes is very good. No complaining there. Jordan Schafer is not on the bench he is starting and already making an impact.. Im not going to keep going with this but to hate the Yankees so much the Mets sure try to copy them a lot. Lets spend a whole lot of money. Try to buy us a championship and hire a bunch of big names all the while depleting the farm system. You know though, at least the Yankees did win a few championships in the 90’s. The Mets havent won since 86 and that was thanks to Buckner. You know looking at all those players that you have listed as the best at their position in the majors, you would think you could at least win the NL East. Whatever you do though you better hurry up. Tommy Hanson is on the way and after that you wont be able to compete with the Phillies or us.
10-4
I highly, HIGHLY suggest you begin re-posting that in quotes boxes in the future – too many people will continue to think that you’re the one posting it.
Might as well also disclaim in the biggest boldest letters each time, that THE FOLLOWING IS A QUOTE FROM A METS FAN
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
i don’t know, its kind of entertaining. i mean, look at that wall of text. All because he didn’t read it thoroughly before posting. Wasted effort is funny.

Compared to:
Sheffield (when he’s ready)
Castro
Cora
M. Anderson
Reed
Tatis
Also, lol at the fact that they have Logan on the bench. So I guess Diaz is starting in CF then?
"People need help, and you know how to help them."
There has to be some way
We need to come up with some sort of quantitative formula that shows which fan base is the most baseball ignorant.
Based on what I read on the ESPN message boards and what you guys post here from the mets blog (I dont go there myself), the Mets have to be the early favorites.
Running WIllie Randolph off like they did doesn’t help there position in my mind.

there are actually some knowledgeable sox fans out there…i went to college in boston and believe me, there are plenty of people there who know their stuff
problem is, they get drowned out by all the drunk, frat boy band wagon hoppers…
I agree. In fact, the person who introduced me into the whole stat-based community was a friend of mine who’s a Sox fan. However…
problem is, they get drowned out by all the drunk, frat boy band wagon hoppers…
…that’s what I’m talking about. Any team where there are an abundance of band-wagon fans, that’s going to be the stupidest fanbase.

I don’t think the popularity of Bill Simmons is helping them either.

There was a kid at my university who was obviously from Boston since he was always draped in Red Sox and whatever-other-team-in-Boston-was-winning-at-the-time gear. Well my school loses a football game to the Boston College (gets destroyed by Matty Ice), and the douchebag shows up the next day in a Boston College Eagles shirt. It’s one thing to cheer for the Sox, but you go to the school, and you’re cheering for your own school to lose and rub it in when they do? Total, utter douchebaggery.
Him + Dane Cook make the Red Sox fanbase the most unbearable.
Ben Affleck pulls for the Red Sox hardcore, dude
It doesn’t get much more douchey than that. Damn it Smoltz. I need to have a one on one with Smoltzie. Can somebody tell him I’m coming for him?

dane cook is horrific…
BC kids arent too bad — most of them arent annoying…I went to BU, but grew up a Clemson fan…since BU has no football team, I have stayed a Clemson guy and went to one of their games at BC…their fan base is pathetic — Clemson literally had more people there than they did
Don’t forget the Cubs. I’m also not a big fan of Oakland/SF fans, I’m guessing it’s a Bay Area thing, but they have some of the most condescending, smarmiest fans I’ve ever met in my life. Then again it’s not just the baseball fans that act that way.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Giants fans I will agree with you on, they are unbearable. Over half of them don’t show up till the third inning, then leave in the 7th (or whenever Barry bats for the last time), and talk on their damn cell phones the whole time they are there.
I’ve never really had a problem with A’s fans though.
best defensive shortstop in baseball hahahahahahahahahah (omar visquel)
Mets? Right.
The Mets starting eight might be better than ours, and their starting pitching might even be as good as ours, but they are not as deep. I think they are far more vulnerable to a serious injury.
Yes, K-Rod and Putz might be the best 8th to 9th inning tandem in the game right now, but Gonzales and Soriano are in for good years as well. I think we take the Mets in ‘09. Hopefully that isn’t just wishful thinking.
If Diaz/BJones were platooning in left, I would have voted a 10
I get nervous every time Anderson goes for a pop-up. Other than that, we’re gravy.

Shame on you, gondee...
…for having more confidence in your team than any of those other bloggers. That really seemed to offend some Mets fans. This was one of my favorite comments:

What is the Braves guy smoking? He shouldn’t be included in any more discussions like this.
Apparently these idiots don’t get that you cannot be wrong about your own confidence level.
One of my greatest sources of entertainment is reading Mets blogs and the comments on them.
