Kawakami's Next Start to be Pushed Back

Kawakami has a sore right shoulder and his next start has been pushed back three days to next Tuesday. This is the second time, including ST, that Kawakami has had shoulder issues. Its not believed to be a serious problem but should it continue to nag Kenshin, Tommy Hanson could receive an opportunity to make his ML debut.

This should satisfy some Talking Chop members, or at least one, who suggested that Kawakami be pushed back in the rotation.

I said sweet when I read the title. I said sweet again when I read that Hanson could be called up.

If its just going to be for one start it would be worthless to bring up Hanson. Just bring up Morton.

Well I was operating under the assumption that if it continued to nag him, he would hit the DL. At that point it would be more like 3 starts

So they did greenlight a second season? Good to hear, that guy cracks me up. His character in Pineapple Express kills me. “Trying to get a motherfucking scholarship!”

Craig Robinson’s character in pineapple express and east bound and down is hilarious too.

Yeah, HBO ordered a second season. Its supposed to be longer than 6 episodes and will air early next year.

I loved the show, but I don’t see why it needs another season. Where can it possibly go? They pretty much did everything you can do with the guy, short of him actually playing again, so unless they’re gonna do that, they’ll just be beating a dead horse. A funny dead horse, but a dead one nonetheless.

I would guess he would wind up playing again. I think they could possibly come up with a enough material for one more season but that’s about the limit in my estimation. Its too simple to be sustained long term but I’ll enjoy the shit out of one more round.

I gotta say though, after realizing that Jody Hill has essentially made the same thing three times (Eastbound & Down, Observe & Report, and The Foot Fist Way), I’m not really on pins an needles for it anymore.

Hanson is going no where till June to be called. Only if KK DL hits the deal there would be an outside chance that Hanson gets the call up over Morton right now. Once Hanson comes up he is not going to be sent down again. Morton will be the first to get the call in this situation or till Morton does a BIG FAIL or JoJo regresses back to his 08’ form than we won’t be seeing hanson just yet.

Glavine should start packing his bags regardless and start preparing for his new career in coaching or stay at home with the Wife and kids….

by Hanson-Ace on Apr 30, 2009 6:37 AM EDT reply actions

heh, nice comment about Glavine.

I’m all for seeing Morton again, but I’d rather have him and Hanson stay in the minors and work on mechanics. How does Morton look so damn sweet one game and shit the next? Whatever the reason, I just hope Mort figures it out cause he has one hell of an arm. Maybe Hanson can pass some knowledge on to him.

by Sparhawk on Apr 30, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions

i think sending morton to a sports psychologist might be a good thing. its all between the ears with charlie. if he ever figures it all out he could be very good… but so could a lot of guys.

RE: Glavine

I wish. Watch Cox start him whenever he’s ready. KK & Glavine will be 4-5 while we already have two comparable pitchers and one superior pitcher internally.

KK + Glavine = Dunn.

One day three ducks were crossing the road going to get some soda, they weren't looking where they were going and a bus came along and hit them all and now they're handycapped and that's pretty much it. Handyquacks! And they didn't get their soda!!

If Adam Dunn were a Brave, he’d lead the team in AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, HR, BB, BB:K…and he’s damn close to leading in R, RBI, and H. Yeah

Why didn’t anybody ever suggest signing him during the off season?

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

That dude hates baseball. Plus, he’s so fucking tall that they’d have to redesign the entire clubhouse, and that would have to be expensive

do you not remember this???

I suggested that we should sign him to hit lead off for us…I made him look really good at that spot by comparing his OBP to Corey Patterson’s OBP.

No need yet, as there’s no way he’s going to continue to hit .300, but I’m still just as confident as before that he would have been a better signing than the myriad of smaller signings we made in his place.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 1, 2009 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

I dont know about that entirely

I agree he would have been MILES better than GA in LF, but I still like Kawakami, and the only other signing of any significance we made was D Lowe.

Glavine was always going to sign. Was there every any doubt about that?

If we could have signed Dunn, we would have had to do so with a $6M max offer (IMO). Sure, hind-sight is 20/20 and it looks like we spent too much on Kawakami. But, the FO obviously had a plan in mind when they signed KK. I don’t think Dunn was ever in our plans. I think either a trade with the Yanks or an Ibanez/Burrel-type player is what we were targeting.

But yeah, Dunn will not continue to hit 70-80 points above his average all season. His BABIP is pretty high right now, both for the league average and for his career average.

In retrospect

what hurt us was our own players and the arbitration they wanted. FYF’s greed really hurt us. I can’t say I am blaming him. I would try to get as much as I could too, but really, that extra $2M, the $2M from GA and maybe a Glavineless rotation would have enabled us to sign a better LF.

I guess the difference is that you’re a little higher on KK that I am. I like the pitching depth, don’t get me wrong, but I would have preferred a legit LF as opposed to signing KK. The fact that Wren tried to shine shit with GA didn’t make me any happier.

It’s all good, we don’t need to get into this discussion for the 100th time.

by Smoltz's Beard on May 1, 2009 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions

from what he’s said lately, it doesn’t look like glavine will be coaching any time soon
