Lucky or Good?
Many of you have probably heard the old saying "I'd rather be lucky than good". I've been thinking about this lately, especially after last night's rather fortunate game-winning hit by Matt Diaz combined with extraordinary pitching from Jo-Jo, Moylan, and Gonzo. I also just read gondeee's latest "where does he get this stuff" stat about the Bravos only scoring one unearned run so far this season -- fewest in the majors.
Anyway, I thought about running a poll asking this question -- Would you rather be lucky or good? -- as applied to your baseball team. Then I thought perhaps that needs to be tweaked a bit to make it more interesting. So now, my question is this:
Would you rather your baseball team be really, really talented but have only an average amount of luck? Or would you prefer a team with average talent, yet having really, really good luck?
Keep in mind, this question assumes that there is such a thing as "luck", which some people don't really believe in.
So, here's the poll:

I think the poll is messed up ...
Shouldn’t the second option read “average talent w/ above average luck”? I don’t know if you can change that, but if you can’t, it probably doesn’t matter (people will get the point).
I absolutely have gotten the impression that the Bravos have been unlucky, so I’m glad you put this out there.
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
/fail (I guess you changed it)

Baseball is too long a season to be lucky the whole time. Gotta be good to make the playoffs.
Sure, the Braves got away with one last night on the ball hit by Diaz. However, there were two games in Pittsburgh where Atlanta was hammering the ball all over the yard but continued to hit it right at Pirate defenders. Sometimes I’ll take a off night with the bats and a little luck than swinging well with bad luck.
i would submit 2008 as the evidene to the contrary… theres no way any team is skilled nough to lose that many one run games. we were unlucky for most of the season last year (if not the whole season)… im not saying we would have torn the world up with some good luck.
Evidenced by the fact that we were 7 games below our Pythagorean W/L record
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?
