The Braves offense is like a bad prom date

Getting to first base is easy, second base takes a little work, and third base takes a ton of patience. But after 3 hours of hard work, you rarely get to score.

What can be done to fix this continual Cox blocking that is being put on our ability to get some hot home plate action?

Tell them that they are pretty and listen to their feelings? Or perhaps get a new hitting coach and someone other than KJ hitting leadoff? Perhaps getting a wingman (power hitter) for Chipper would solve our problems.

Either way, I'm getting sick of the Braves' offense continually blue-balling their fans.

Opinions?

I’m sure Terry Pendleton is a great guy, but it’s a little curious as to why so many of our hitters continually go outside the organizations for help.

your saying our offense is being Cox blocked?

Exactly

Bobby Cox and his cronie Terry Pendleton.

I’m confused by this analogy.

One day three ducks were crossing the road going to get some soda, they weren't looking where they were going and a bus came along and hit them all and now they're handycapped and that's pretty much it. Handyquacks! And they didn't get their soda!!

They should just move in the fences of Turner Field to about 150 feet around, much like a little league softball stadium.

We have won 3 out of our last 5

We’re kind of like a mediocre prom date, that puts out every now and then, but not all the time. We need a big night at home to keep some momentum going.

Play like sluts Hilarious + 1. With all the work done to our rotation it will be really messed up if this season is flawed by the absence of a power hitting left fielder.

the Braves should tell Adam Dunn how much the Nationals suck and then bring him over to bang?

Don't Blame Terry

I don’t think Pendelton is the problem. Just spitballin, but when McCann gets healhty I’d like to see 1-9 go Shafer, Kotchman, Chipper, Mac, Esco, Frenchy, Kelly, Diaz.

I think Kotchman will hit anywhere in the lineup. He’s not been driving in a lot of runs or hitting homers, so why not let a guy with that high an OBP get on in front of Chipper? It just seems the lineup needs to be shuffled a bit.

by kalesi on Apr 28, 2009 11:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No thank you

I don’t want Casey Kotchman aka the slowest man on earth clogging up the bases in front of chipper & McCann. I want Esco in the 2 hole, someone who can bunt if needed, hit it to the right side or get on base and become a 2nd leadoff man. If Casey bats 2nd it would take a HR for him to score from 1st, with our offense like it is we need to limit the # of hits it will take to score since we don’t get many. Here is the lineup that I would love to see

1. Schafer
2. Escobar
3. Chipper
4. McCann
5. Francoeur
6. KJ
7. Diaz/Brandon Jones
8. Kotchman( i like him here because of his OBP to clear the pitcher)

by mauck98 on Apr 28, 2009 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's been said before, but it bears repeating:

I’d rather have the bases clogged than empty.

Escobar is a ground ball machine. Putting anyone in front of him is asking for another GIDP. Your lineup maximizes Vidros and minimizes run scoring by having emptier bases in front of players who slug.

And you get bonus points for using “clogging up the bases”. I laugh every time…

"The crows seemed to be calling his name, thought Caw."

by WienerDog on Apr 29, 2009 8:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Disagree. Kotchman is the best hitter in the lineup right now. He has something like 4 RBI through 20 games, but he’s getting on base at a high clip. He walks and he hits. Get him on base in front Mac and Chipper. I don’t care how slow he is.

He sure isn’t a #8 hitter. He’s too valuable to stick down at the bottom of the order, IMO.

Regardless, Schafer needs the opportunity to be tested at the top of the lineup. The secret to Braves success (and what we have not done the past two years) is get guys on base in front of our consistent hitters. Both Chipper and Tex hit well last year, but two out doubles don’t much help us.
