Running late tonight. Just cause I am lazy. Will have a prospect write up on Canizares tomorrow.
Charlotte 1, Gwinnett 3
- G. Blanco 2-4 BB, K, CS
- L. Valdez 2IP 2H 0R 0BB 2K
Gregor Blanco is hitting .197 on the season and can't even do well one of the things he does well (steal stuff). His .504 OPS may never see the show again. Luis Valdez however will see the Braves bullpen inside a month. I have money on it. And when you have a month coming up with only one off day someone is going to give out at some point. He has 12K in 11IP with a .82 ERA. He has allowed 13 baserunners in those innings but I think he is ok.
Mississippi 6, West Tenn 4
- G. Creek 2-5 HR(1), 2 RBI
- C. Rodriguez 2-4 RBI, SB(2)
Greg Creek is an organizational player who is out of Maine who plays a little first and a little third. This is his third season in Mississippi. he has almost no power, especially for a corner guy, but I get the feeling he is quite the scrapper. Also Concepcion Rodriguez has hits in 5 straight games. He hasn't shown any power so far this season but I think it will come. He has a little pop in his bat as evidenced by his 47 XBH last season. The guy is only 22 as well; not too shabby in the Southern league.
Myrtle Beach 4, Salem 3
- J. Heyward 0-5 2K
- C. Johnson 1-4 2B, BB, 3K
- D. Linares 3-4 2B, 2 RBI
- C. Kimbrel 1IP 0H 0R 1BB 2K
I post Kimbrel's line here simply because this is his first appearance this year where he did not surrender any runs. Maybe they have straightened out whatever was wrong with his delivery. I really want this Linares character to do well since we have had some success with our Cuban pick ups over the last few years. He isn't as highly touted and has been waiting around since 2005, but he is supposed to have a decent bat and could advance fast if/when he knocks the rust off.
Augusta 8, Rome 4
- G. Rodriguez 2-4 RBI, 2K
- J. Sucre 3-4 2 2B, RBI
Rodriguez has now hit in 9 straight games and has mltiple hits in 6 of those games. Sucre has also hit in 5 straight games but he allowed all three basestealers safe passage tonight. Jake Thompson and David Francis both got his hard tonight though Francis did K 7 in 3.2IP.
