G. Anderson to DL

Anderson headed to the DL. So far this has not been the good hire that I hoped it would be. Granted hindsight is 20/20 and it is early in the season, but I wonder if the money spent on Anderson wouldn't have been used better in resigning Ohman (especially with all the lefty hitters in our division). I am fairly confident that B. Jones and Diaz would have been just as good and Jones probably better defensively (can't be any worse). Hopefully we see some return on our investment in Anderson this yr.

It's Ohman's own fault that he didn't sign with the Braves

I wonder if Infante will see more playing time in LF or if it’s just going to Matty D full time? Or will it be BJones? How exciting

by VictorW on Apr 24, 2009 5:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He didn’t take the money that we offered him? I mean, it was his decision, or his wife’s. Either way, he decided not to take the contract.

I hope we don’t see Infante in LF. He’s not bad out there, but his bat is so much more valuable anywhere else…

hmm, mustve missed that

didnt realize we made a contract offer…i mean, iirc, he signed a minor league deal with the dodgers, so i just assumed that if we really wanted him, he could have been had.

by Doghnut on Apr 25, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, you missed that

we offered him a good deal and it sat on the table for a few weeks…this was back in December, I think.

ahh ok

well now he looks like a tool for signing a minor league deal

Of course we pulled the offer after getting Logan (yuck), and didn’t put an offer out there after it became obvious that the bottom had fallen out of the market and players like Ohman were going to have to settle for less than they were originally expecting.

To steal a little something from my finance term project…

Return on equity = net income / total equity
Anderson net income (loss) = (1.1 million)
Anderson total equity = 2 million
Anderson return on equity = (1.1 million) / 2 million
Anderson total return on equity = -55%

As a comparison, Citigroup’s return on equity for the 2008 fiscal year was -19%.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Did he spell ‘hire’ as ‘higher’?

Yes, yes he did. The Anderson signing was never going to be much more than a wash, he’s fading fast and he sure as hell can’t field.

Yeah, and it’s not like a typo of emission – he had to go out of his way to spell that wrong.

hmmmmm…that wasn’t even on the list of possible jobs that I created for you the other day.

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

And I’ll maintain that it’s still one I could be doing concurrently with about 5 of the others ones.

No need to “wonder” now! If I recall correctly, many of us said this was a bad deal from the start and the money would have been better spent on anyone, including Ohman. If I have my way we’ll activate and cut GA the day he comes off the DL!

This is the greatest thing I have seen on these message boards yet. The most useless piece of the braves roster is now hurt and we all get to see if B. Jones can put up some numbers. Personally I am excited to see if he can put up enough to keep GA out of the lineup, on the flip side i dont get to see him when Gwinnet takes on norfolk tuesday and wednesday.
