Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 4/21
Durham 7, Gwinnett 3
- R. Gorecki 1-4 HR(1), 2 RBI, 2K
- B. Canizares 1-4 HR(3), K
The AAA Braves went up against David Price for the second time this season and they could only muster 4 baserunners off him in his 5 innings, but they still got 2 runs on Gorecki's homer. Nothing much else going on here except Boone Logan threw one scoreless inning, but still allowed 3 runners.
Chattanooga 1, Mississippi 5
- G. Hernandez 2-3 3B, RBI, BB, SB(5), CS(2)
- B. Hicks 2-3 3B, BB, K
- D. Heath 7IP 3H 1R 1BB 7K
Gotta say that this is the best line I can ever remember Deunte Heath putting up. Usually he walks more guys than he Ks but he looked pretty untouchable here. Hernandez can really fill up box score. He is on pace for 50 XBH this season even though he still hasn't hit a homer. I think he can keep up the pace simply because he was doing it last year before he got hurt.
Kinston 15, Myrtle Beach 5
- J. Heyward 2-5 2B, RBI, K
- C. Johnson 2-4 2B, RBI, BB, K
WOW. 42 runs given up in the last 3 games. I thought this was supposed to be a good pitching staff. Rohrbough is in the DL with some mystery ailment (still trying to figure that out if anyone knows). The bullpen here has been pretty bad from all aspects. Heyward keeps on hitting though and 10 of Johnson's 12 hits have been for extra bags (.708 SLG).
Rome 5, Augusta 4
- L. Sumoza 2-5 2B
- G. Rodriguez 2-5 2 2B, K
- J. Thompson 5IP 7H 3R 1BB 5K
- D. Francis 4IP 4H 1R 2BB 4K
Rome improves to 7-5 on the season which is surprising for me since their offense appears to be so weak (though they have been better lately with Sumoza and Rodriguez coming around). David (doesn't he got by something other than David or am I loopy?) Francis had a nice bounce back game here. C.J. Lee (a repeat offender in Rome) also chipped in two hits and two RBI.

Rohrbough
Bill Shanks stated that he has a minor hamstring injury and he should be back soon.
Sumoza was acquired for Kotsay, correct?

I actually know this one
Yeah he was…Sumoza played in the NY-P league last year (my “local” league, if you will), so that’s why it sticks in my mind.
