The Braves Walking Wounded Expands
Seriously! After a good start to the season, we've taken a precipitous turn for the worse as a team. While Chipper Jones and Yunel Escobar are edging closer to returning to the lineup, there is now news that Brian Mccann might have to be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of blurred vision... I'm not making this up.
Mark Bowman reports that McCann has been experiencing problems with vision in his left eye since Opening Day:
After returning from Philadelphia last week, McCann visited an eye doctor who told him that there's a chance that his vision has changed since he underwent Lasik surgery in Nov. 2007. But while wearing a contact over the last week, the 25-year-old catcher didn't experience improved vision.
Essentially, McCann's left eye has been dry and he hasn't benefitted from the use of eye drops. On Saturday morning, he began using a prescribed ointment.
Fantastic! I said at the beginning of the year that this team had great depth, and we're certainly using most of it early in the season. I'm ready for that depth to return to the bench and get out of my starting lineup.
It's too early to panic... it's too early to panic... it's too early to panic...

Like you said, it is early BUT
It’s already getting to the point where it’s just embarrassing to be a Brave’s fan this year. I mean, the bullpen is a JOKE and a complete mess (excluding Soriano, WHO btw should be the team’s closer). Other than Rafael, the only strength so far has been the starting rotation which has pitched better than our record would indicate. And what’s even more sad is the fact that our worst everyday player, Francoeur, has been our best offensive contributor (atleast consistent).

Blurred vision?
I thought that was some BS injury that they put into OOTP just to piss me off. Also, there is no reason we should have lost 2 straight to the Pirates. This is ridiculous.
I’ve noticed McCann doing a lot of “blink blink squint” while preparing for each pitch. It’s obvious his eyes are bugging him.
McCann always does the BBS, that’s nothing new

It's too early to panic ...
Reporter: How will you address all of the dropped passes?
Mike Smith: I don’t think that we were as sharp as we have been catching the football. It’s something that is very fixable. It’s VERY fixable.
WOW.
so um.
WOW
I say we overhaul this team.
Out with Garrett Anderson. In with Brandon Jones
Out with Buddy Carlyle. In with Kris Medlen.
Out with O’Flaherty. Move Reyes to the Bullpen
Out with whoever they want as a 5th Starter. In with Hanson.
And im tempted to swap Schafer with Blanco till Schafer learns how to hit again. apparently all he knows how to do now is K. reminds me of Frenchy.
Speaking of Frenchy. Dude is coming around. i almost want to bat him 4th and put McCann 5th.
do you ever think before you post?

So you would leave our bullpen intact? really? we kind of dont have time to sit around and wait for them to re-learn how to pitch. thats what spring training is for. it does us no good to have an excellent starting staff and a horrible bullpen. outside of soriano no one has been consistent. Moylan is still showing some problems and so is Gonzalez.
In regards to Schafer its no secret that the guy is trying to do too much at the plate right now and ends up K’ing every at bat. when the season first started he had all this discipline taking pitches and such now he barely sees 4 pitches it seems like.
And Frenchy is becoming a very consistent hitter and for that reason i said put him in the 4 hole or even 5th.
please tell me what you see wrong. i’m tired of this whole we have a long season crap. our bullpen is one of the worst in the league.

I don't know how many of you caught it
But Joe Simpson made a brief comment about how Schafoeur is playing with a banged up left wrist right now. As a LH batter, that means a lot.
Doesn’t attribute to his horrendous fielding, but it should be kept in mind.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Brian McCann’s EYE is dry??? What the hell is that? He can’t see because it is dry?? Must be extremely dry for that to happen and why just one eye? Dry eyes usually affects both eyes. And besides, dry eyes usually doesn’t happen to someone his age. He is too young and in too humid of an area to have this going on. Maybe it’s just crap and that’s really not what is going on.
Look, I’m an eye doctor… Send McCann to Connecticut and I’ll fix him up in no time flat. Who the hell is taking care of this guy???

I just read this:
“Comment: McCann has been playing with blurry vision in his left eye. He went 0-for-3 in Saturday’s loss to Pittsburgh. “I tried wearing contacts for a week, and it didn’t work. Now I’ve got some antibiotic drops, and hopefully that will clear it up,” he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports."
Antibiotic drops? What good is that going to do unless he has a raging bacterial infection? Adults just don’t get bacterial eye infections unless they wear contact lenses. Now I guess he could have gotten an infection due to him wearing contacts to correct his current vision problem but it’s unlikely that he would have a serious issue unless he had been wearing them a long time. Short time wearers usually don’t get infections—they usually take time to develop because of bad habits like not cleaning the lenses well enough or wearing a poor fitting lens over time. I’m assuming from the comments that he’s never worn them before.
As I said before, SEND HIM TO ME AND I’LL FIX HIS PROBLEM!

The Braves have two ball players: Chipper and McCann. Otherwise, its the same old, same old, which has become the norm.
such an insightful first post…yawn…

It’s obvious how frustrated you are right now, Beard. I feel your pain.

Chipper
He out of the line-up more than he is in it. When he is in it all he does is strike out or hit into double plays or making errors at third base. I am not a chipper fan as you can probably tell by now.

one player
please don’t mention chipper being a player in the same breathe with McCann what a low blow to Brian.
