TC Road Trip at Nationals Ballpark/Camden?

I saw in last nights game thread that people were thinking of coming up to DC to catch a game or two.  I live in Fairfax, VA and was wondering when you were planning on coming up.  I know they are in town next week (Apr 20-22) and July 3-5 for the Nats and June 12-14 for the O's.  I'm guessing July... It'd be nice to setup a lil TC cheering section there.

A couple of us

Have debated on Baltimore’s June series. No real ideas of Nationals Park, though. It’s harder to be an ass at the park of a division rival, and expect to get away with it.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I've seen

more braves fans at Nationals Park than Nat’s fans. Trust me its easier to get away with being an ass there then say CitiField or the bank.

Very true

But a Nationals game just doesn’t sound as interesting as an interleague game against the Orioles.

Agreed

Plus and as nice as Nationals Park is, Camden is 10 times nicer.

Except

For the fact that it’s in Baltimore, Maryland

ummm

I live in Maryland currently (not from here tho) and I can say definitively that Washington is a shit hole compared to Baltimore. Hell, I’d take Baltimore over Atlanta too (which is also a shit hole).

by Doghnut on Apr 15, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Take my opinion as someone from NOVA who grew up ingrained with the hatred for Maryland as all NOVA-ians do.

That being said, take away the Inner Harbor district, and Baltimore is a cesspool that metaphorically can’t wipe the sweat off the balls of Washington or Atlanta. And that’s pretty bad, considering how second-rate Washington and Atlanta can be some times.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on Apr 15, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Bigger shit hole

Southeast / Anacostia or Everything but Inner Harbor in Bmore?

by cmdpsu15 on Apr 15, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I completely disagree

I hate washington…outside of the national mall, it’s a scary, worthless town. Baltimore has relatively good parts of it and there is stuff to do. Washington has things to do too, but you go there hoping you dont get raped or shot.

And I just hate Atlanta. Traffic is horrible and public transportation is a joke. I grew up a couple of hours away from Atlanta and pretty much refused to go there.

by Doghnut on Apr 15, 2009 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

My last words on this

The whole raped or shot joke applies 100% to Baltimore, if not more. I’ve known people who have been hospitalized by thugs in Baltimore, and I can’t say the same about DC. I’d agree that there are things to do in Baltimore, but usually I’d look around, and realize that I was in Columbia or Glen Burnie instead.

Atlanta’s not perfect, but what it holds over Baltimore is that it’s smaller. If you don’t like the town or fear for your life, it’s not hard stretch to get out. The traffic problem applies in Baltimore too, and infurated drivers often bitch about the arbitrary toll that sits in the middle of I-95 right in the middle of the city. And I hate to break it to you, but the public transportation in Baltimore isn’t that much better, except for the fact that the Brunswick and Camden lines takes you out of Baltimore.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

by royhobbs on Apr 15, 2009 6:40 PM EDT up reply actions

So, other than the national mall there’s nothing to do in Washington? That makes me wonder if you’ve ever actually been there for an extended period of time. If not, you probably shouldn’t be jumping to conclusions.

Also…have you seen The Wire? There’s a reason it was placed in Baltimore, the crime there is just as bad as DC.

You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the goddamn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all.

well, every city has bad parts and crime. i didnt mean to imply that baltimore was immune to such things.

In my experience, i have always found washington to be boring and dull. And while I have lived in a few different parts of the country in my short life, including one largish city, i have only ever felt uncomfortable while being in washington. And it has happened on several occassions there (actually, it always happens there…ive never felt safe there). I however, cant say the same about baltimore or other major cities (that i’ve been to).

by Doghnut on Apr 17, 2009 12:47 AM EDT up reply actions

The only city I have ever felt uncomfortable in was Fargo, North Dakota. There are too many white people there. Crazy thing is that I think that and I am white myself.

That's funny

In retrospect, I look at where I live now, compared to NOVA, and I think NOVA’s like the UN up there. Atlanta’s population is predominantly Caucasian and African-American, with little exception. You can look at all the demographic numbers you want, but unless you’re hanging around Georgia Tech, or in Gwinnett County, you’re not seeing many minorities.

Any time I get off a plane in Dulles or BWI, it’s almost like I’ve landed in a different country, based on the diversity I see up there. And that’s just the airport alone. NOVA is quite a mixing bowl these days, with heavy Asian and Middle Eastern populations, compared to ROVA.
