Give Francoeur A Break
He had a horrible season last year, one might even say abismal but he is only 24. You guys pick more on frenchy than the Mets and Phillies combine. C'mon this guy is still our teammate at least show him a little loyality. It's not like he cost us the world series or something I mean god. He had one bad year on a mediocre at best team. Lets just try to quit bombing on frenchy (at least lay off alittle bit) and try to focus on winning this year and many years to come.

My Apologies
Now that I read this again I should not of used the profanity, especially in the title and I’m sorry for that I was just trying to get my point across.
"The only time the Mets win is in the offseason"
No need for the profanity!
We support Franky, but we need franky if this team is going anywhere. Thats why we get on him. And I think its great we pick on him bc it shows that Braves fans do care and we are not just going to roll over and let this man get away with another bad season.
shit, I’d be happy if FYF was able to put up a year like Bay’s terrible one

I see your point...
…but I think it’s become more of a “family joke” than anything. I think most of the people here really hope he does come back. Also thanks for apologizing for the language, although it’s not really necessary around here, I don’t think.
Not just his play...
Personally, I would give him a break, but it seems like he keeps doing stupid things that cause the fans to get annoyed with him. Two examples:
1) He gets sent to AA last year and says “"I was upset [Thursday] night when I got home,” Francoeur said. "[Friday] morning, when I woke up, it was anger that I was feeling. Then by the time I got here, I told myself, ‘You know what? There’s not a damn thing I can do about it now. So there’s no reason to sit back and think about it.’
- Actually, there was a “damn thing” you could do. He could have gone down to AA, not complained, and worked on his hitting and plate discipline. He was one of the worst players in all of baseball last year.
2) Comes into the arbitration process this year and asks for a huge raise.
- He has to stop thinking that he is entitled to be on this team. I think the Braves made a huge mistake in bringing him up too fast from the minors a few years ago, but he can’t think that just because he’s driven in 100 runs a couple of times and won a Gold Glove that he is untouchable. You have to realize what your shortcomings are and try to improve them.

A freaking men
These are exactly the 2 reasons I will never give him a break. He thinks he is owed something. WTFever. He isn’t owed jack. I’m really not sure which Brave I disliked more while still on the team, Francoeur or Dan Kolb.
Also
He rejected the long term contract offered to him before last season. He obviously wants to milk the Braves for all he can in the short term while he’s sucking, then move on to some other team.
But with the raw talent of prospects like Heyward and Schafer can we really complain?

Haha
I just hope he starts producing more. If that’s “picking on Frenchy,” then fuck. He’s a goofy guy. Frenchy picks on Frenchy.

Yeah, I'll give him a break when he becomes, say, a good player
After last year, league average would look nice.
I'll give him a break if........
he is the best outfielder we have this season. That’s what were paying him for and if he can’t produce then he doesn’t even give us trade value. He is a non performing asset at this point. Just like the mortgage companies, banks, etc……got to get bad investments off the books if they can’t turn it around.
He’s got this year to keep his job and that’s the reality of it.
Some of the pictures everyone uses on here makes me laugh like hell and have a better humbled day.

Is Frenchy really good enough to warrant this much attention?
He was a high draft pick and had half of a season of outstanding play. Since then he’s been pretty mediocre. I don’t understand why people are so enamored with him, so I really don’t understand why people get all pushed out of shape when others make fun of him. What part of his play justifies this type of loyalty? Now, if all the defenders are young girls or other folks who like good-looking young men, I guess that makes sense. But if that’s all you’re after, I’m sure you can find plenty of that on the internets—and none of those guys is getting paid $3 million bucks to suck…or are they?

He was terrible last year
But we know he can be better. If everything clicks for him, he’ll have a Garrett Anderson career, which is nothing to be ashamed of. I think his debut was just TOO good, and he set the bar too high for himself.
Personally, I like Francoeur. I appreciate the fact the he loves what he is doing and that he wants so badly to help the team win. I like the “I will not fail again” moxie too.
But, I’ll be damned, get your head out of your ass and let your talent take over. Being aggressive is not a fault but how many sliders down and away do you have to strike out on before you start to recognize that it precludes success? By all means, if you get a hittable pitch, hack away but its his turn to make the adjustment to the adjustment the league made on him two years ago. He has to do a better job with the mental aspect of the game.
The adjustments he made to his stance this offseason should help his pitch recognition by virtue of allowing him more time to see the pitch before he commits. Its entirely up to him to make the adjustment. Its something every young player has to make but Francoeur is taking a scary long time in making it. Here’s to hoping he learns when to leave the bat on his shoulder.

Frenchy is not in the longterm plans beyond 09’ and he has shown that he values $$/Ego instead of being productive team player. If Heyward is cushing the ball in AA this year I can see Frenchy being shipped out for OF PowerBat/MI Prospects in the next offseason. FYF will have averag OF production in 09’ which could raise his stock to ship his ass out (K.Davies) when the FO doesn’t think you will be in the longterm plans. Though the best case senario for the Braves is that FYF has a career year to get trade value as high to get max return in a trade. I hope I am wrong in FYF but I still believe the FO will be shopping FYF next offseason with Vaz to net a Power Hitting RH OFor MI/3B Prospects for the future. It looks like this team is being geared up for 10’ to make a run for a Championship and just hope FYF can show that he is willing to take walks with timely hitting in 09’
I believe you are wrong.
As it stands today, I believe Jeff Francoeur definitely remains in the Braves’ longterm plans.
Your points that he has made some immature blunders when speaking with the press and is, therefore, an ego-driven jerk, and (shockingly!) wants to be well-compensated, suggests that your analysis is not primarily based upon the factors that the professionals in the Braves’ front office will ultimately make the decision.
I do, however, acknowledge that it is significant that unlike his buddy McCann, they have not locked him up … so far; and that this tells us, at minimum that they are waiting to see him become more consistently productive. If that happens this year, he will, I expect, get a big 4-5 year deal. If not, they will run him through arbitration again and give him at least one more year to prove he deserves be a middle of the lineup fixture.
Bottom line: He is a young player with a great deal of athleticism and physical tools, who in three and one half seasons has hit for both power and average (inconsistently), been very good in the field, and shown great durability. So, despite one bad season, he obviously has a large upside and will continue be given every chance to succeed.
I have previously predicted a big bounceback season in ’09 and a very good career.
For the team’s sake, I truly hope that I’m right.
I think that when he said that FYF is egoistical, he meant because of his asking for an unbelievably huge percentage raise and threatening to go to arbitration after a season where he was one of the worst everyday players. Plus his attitude towards going back to the minors. Look at KLB’s post above.
The front office offered FYF about the same long term contract that they offered McCann, but FYF turned it down. Why? See “FYF is egoistical.”
He got one ball out of the infield today, and that was a lazy pop up into short right. He’s looked dreadful all spring so far.

The messed up thing, is we've got a fucking influx of guys that could totally clean up

Great quote from Josh Anderson on not making the team last spring
“You can either go down [to the Minors] and be really bitter, and things can snowball for you, or you can keep your head up and try to prove to people that you belong in the [Majors].”
If only FYF had the same attitude.

Also....
I was watching either baseball tonight or ESPN, and they were talking about his new stance. I guess he’s leaning back more and that he’s facing the pitcher more than what he used to. They said that now he should start seeing the ball more.
Last year he had not so good of a year, but hey, it’s a new season and he’s made some changes. I think he’ll have one heck of a season. I believe in him.
