[Chipper Jones] will draw a $13 million salary during the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons.
During this three-season span, the All-Star third baseman, who will turn 37 on April 24, will have the opportunity to annually gain a bonus of $1.5 million. These separate $750,000 bonuses would vest when he plays in 135 games and 140 games.
This extension also includes a $9 million vesting option for the 2013 season that will be exercised if Jones plays in 123 games in 2012 or if he plays in an average of 127 games during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Bowman has the details on the Chipper Jones contract
There are even more options and bonuses if you click on the link. That's a crazy incentive-laden contract, for one that already has a pretty high base salary.

Even maximizing those incentives, it’s still far below market value. I have no problem paying him more if he plays more – he’ll earn it.

Chipper is a class act he could have easily made twice as much over his entire career but he continued and continues to give the Braves a discount. He is worth more than 13 million. The truth is he should’ve gotten 3 years 60 million. He is the face of our franchise and prime example of how the Braves do business and our players are great role models and ambassadors to the game. Go Braves!!!!

I’d say – especially considering his previous negotiation with the Braves to diminish his annual salaries in favor of additional years-under-contract (along with greater payroll flexibility) – that Chipper deserves every reasonable incentive the Braves might dream up for placement in their agreement.

Awesome deal for both sides
Now lets just move on and get ready to watch the Phillies get spanked come Sunday night.

Chipper deserves it, he’s worked hard and sacrificed for years for this team. It makes me long for the days when staying loyal to a team wasn’t such a foreign concept.
Now, let’s just hope Chipper doesn’t go all Mr. Glass now that he’s locked up.

This deal is getting hammered on Bill Shanks’ radio show, but you have to keep in mind that its Bill Shanks.

Seriously. Bill Shanks is so far from relevant he couldn’t find it with a map and a head start.

This deal is perfect
It shows the respect that Chipper has for the organization, and in turn, the organiztion is showing him some serious respect.
I guess this is how it really panned out:
Chipper: Frank, this is what I want
Wren: Chipper, you deserve much more than that. This is what we will give you – if you think you will be worth it by then.
Chipper: Thanks! Here, have another kitten
