Th Braves appear to be closing in on a 3 year extension with Chipper. The article says the deal could be announced as soon as Tuesday. The deal would keep Chipper in a Braves uniform until he is 41 and there might be an option for a 4th year. Thoughts?

That's awesome!!!

I’m loving the way this spring training is winding up. Even GAnderson is getting in some nice shots. The Braves are definitely a team that everyone should be worried about this year. We seem to have an influx, as opposed to having an outflux. Having Chipper Jones around is always a plus, even if it’s occasionally on the bench. He’s got these two good buddies named Prado and Infante. All joking aside, dude is still pretty quick. And he gets a “few hits” every now and then. lol.

You da mayon, Chip. Chipper Jones. He was like the damned Terminator last season.

The fact that McCann gave Chipper the credit for making him the hitter he is today says how valuable he is even if he isn’t in the lineup.

Some of the numbers guru’s among you are probably aware of how basically all of McCann’s offensive numbers shot way up when he got to the big’s (which is obviously very unusual). And when asked he said simply “because of Chipper”.

Chipper may only be playing 110 games a year or less by the time his contract is up but that doesn’t mean he’s worthless. Basically it seems to me that he is a better hitting coach than TP so having him around the clubhouse teaching these guys can’t be underestimated.

Chipper should be a Brave forever and great to see this happen :D

41?

it makes for a nice story, the guy retires with the same club he came up with but really how effective do we think he’ll be at 41? he hasn’t been able to compete the entire season for a few years now. what is kotchman’s role in the near future? maybe we move chip to 1B, i can’t see him finishing out his career at 3rd.
i do think the braves owe it to him after the kind of dedication he’s shown over the years but there has to be a point when reality is reality…

We've got kickass backup. Omar and Martini.

It’s covered. Solid.

For the millionth time…Chipper has said that 1B is harder on his legs/feet than 3B. And even if that wasn’t the case, and Kotchman wasn’t in the picture, what do you do with Freeman then?

the only way to save chipper...

is amputate his legs and hook him up with some of those sweet robotic legs. then rename him mr. roboto and watch him kick ass ’til 50.

this sets perspective for the next few years….
2011 roster could be banging…
freeman
kj
esco
chipper
heyward
schafer
one of those AA studs (watch those guys develop this year: willie cabrera, owings, concepcion rodriguez)
mccann

and dont even get me started on the pitching staff…
holy shit, we’re going to be really good the next few years, if not this year.

who in the hell would hit cleanup in a stacked line such as that?

by ryan c on Mar 31, 2009 12:03 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

willie cabrera? owings? concepcion rodriguez?

i have no idea who those guys are

im pretty sure if just heyward and freeman pan out our lineup will be stacked. If Frenchy returns to a typical Power hitting outfielder then it will be really good. the only problem i see is that almost all of our positions will be left handed giving us a lefty heavy lineup. I wouldnt mind trading Kelly Johnson and ending up with a Righty at 2B.

Man that would have been perfect if we could have traded him for Ludwick and gotten Furcal. our line up this year would be sick

1. Furcal 2B
2. Schafer CF
3. C Jones 3B
4. Ludwick LF
5. McCann C
6. Frenchy RF
7. Kotchman
8. Escobar SS

Only reason i put Schafer as the #2 is the ability to utilize his speed up there. can you imagine if Furcal and Schafer got on base with Chipper coming up behind them to bat . . .

ah man. if only

Who’s fault is that? The rest of us know who they are.

+1

I see your ex was finally put out of her misery last week. Question: are you happy about it, or mad because you don’t get to watch her suffer anymore?

I haven’t gotten a chance to actually watch that episode, but I’ve had it describe and I think it’s hilarious. Yes, it kind of sucks because I don’t get to watch her make an ass of herself anymore, but the spectacular nature of her removal was good enough. If anything, I’ve had to apologize to Reality TV for all the bad things I’ve said over the years, because I haven’t had this much fun watching TV in…ever.

I agree

I used to HATE reality TV when the genre first took off. I mean, abhor it. But now, like you, I’ve totally come around. Some of my favorite shows on right now are “reality” ones, including HK and bigjoe’s favorite, Deadliest Catch.

You have to tell me what you think of that ep you mentioned after you actually see it. Out-friggin-standing.

I’m still not a fan of reality TV, but I feel like I can’t talk bad about it anymore since it gave me this treat. Hopefully I’ll watch it this week and I’ll slip my thoughts on it into some nonsense fanpost on here.

I dont like it either

except for shows like Rock of Love…something about watching white-trash whores talk about love and emotions with Brett Michaels just entertains me!

You have no idea how hilarious it was to see her bawling several times on national TV, admit she has no idea how to cook, and getting put out of her misery in the middle of service…and then have her team rally behind her getting eliminated to finish service perfectly and win for the evening. Absolutely riotous

So I watched it just now and yeah, it was amazing. She was blubbering and crying from go. It’s just nuts. Yeah, Reality TV has done right by me. The whole thing was hilarious and I can’t wait to buy this on DVD. Man, what a freaking lunatic. And her body went all funhouse mirror on her. Yeah, this is, without a doubt, the funniest thing that has ever happened in all of time.

Shit, I usually watch HK too, but I’ve been really horrible at remembering to set the DVR this time around. Gonna suck when I finally see all the eps and sit there by myself saying, “Oh snap, that’s what they were talking about!” and go back, like 200 posts and say, “yeah, right on guys!” Ugh.
That has got to be a great feeling for you, though! :)

Yeah. The loud, bitchy one that was kicked off last week. She gained like 100 pounds in the seven years since we went out. She was always that loud and bitchy though.

I wouldnt mind trading Kelly Johnson and ending up with a Righty at 2B.

Please let me know when right handed 2B who is better than Kelly would be available…you won’t find one. Trading someone simply to balance out a lineup is stupid.

Not to mention that he hits lefties just fine thank you very much.

I think they need to make it mandatory for this guy to be in some sort of yoga class every day. alot of his issues seem to come from muscle strains which means your over exerting something somewhere so yoga would make him more flexible and less likely to over exert himself.

As far as him moving to 1B we already know that isnt going to happen.

FANGRAPHS!

for those who love Fangraphs here is a link to what Chippers season was valued at last year: Chipper’s Value

There are a lot of numbers to process there, but the one we need to remember is 128. He played 128 games yet his perceived monetary value was 34 million. Damn I want 150 games from him. Or even 140
