Ohman Agrees to Minor League Deal with Dodgers

The deal is reportedly worth 1.35M base if he makes the team, with another 200k in incentives. The Dodgers also have a 2M option for 2010 with a 200k buyout.

Its suprising to me that its just a minor league deal. At the price, I could certainly see the Braves experiencing non-buyer's remorse with the uncertainty surrounding our current LOOGY options. Ohman should provide good value for the Dodgers, replacing Joey Beimel who signed with the Nats for 2M.

WTF is Ohman worse than all of us think? A minor league deal? Really?

I think he finally realized that he would not be playing this year if he didn’t sign. The sad thing is I think we will be looking for a lefty reliever around the trade deadline, which really worries me because are recent history of trading for relievers mid season really sucks.

Damn it all, Will.

But I still like the Dodgers, for whatever reason. Love the Braves, like the Dodgers.

Doesn’t look like the braves will get a LOOGY from FA, but I would kinda like for them to take a chance on Jimmy Gobble.

lol yeah and

He isn’t a bad pitcher either. Would be a nice pickup mid-season if things aren’t going well then.

Apparently Ohman was AWFUL in a pitching session with Dodgers minor leaguers. They came away saying you could tell he hadn’t been pitching recently. But a month to knock off the rust and he could be a great pick up.

Damn Will you really should’ve taken that offer the Braves had on the table for you.

He has got to be kicking himself for not taking the Braves offer during last season of 2 years/5mil.

Without a doubt.

But that ship sailed a long time ago. Hopefully LOOGY or O’LOOGY will pan out for us.

not at all

He wanted more than we were offering at the time (and rightfully so, based on the market at that time).

We pulled our offer from the table.

He now has a worse contract that he would have had.

It was a lose-lose situation. Nothing personal anywhere, all business.

Agreed...

Furcal and his agents kicked dirt in our face. Ohman was just guilty of overplaying his hand. I can’t say I blame him, as a 31 year old reliever coming off a career year, I’d be looking for the best possible payday. Relievers’ careers can flame out quickly and I can’t blame him for holding out in pursuit of what could be his most profitable years. Unfortunately for him, his career year came at the worst possible time.

Everybody is in denial about the economy. Even still, people have NO idea how bad its going to get in the coming months…
