MLB2K9 and the Braves
I picked up the game earlier and noticed a few odd things about the Braves in the game. First, Tommy Hanson will never be good in this game. That can be said for alot of the prospects. For some reason one cannot edit the birthdays for the players. Hanson's fake guy is 29 years old. I didn't find dopplegangers for Freeman or Heyward either, but James Parr is in the game as himself since he appeared in a game or two last season. Sort of a bummer there.
The second strange thing is that the Braves wear their all blue hats with their away unis and wear all blue batting helmets. Was there a secret change made to the uniforms this year? Right now I'm chalking it up to an error on 2K's part.
Chipper is rated a 91 and Francoeur is in the 80s I believe. Hudson is a 78. Andruw is rated a 72.

Do the 80s mean horrible and 72 is the worst number possible?

Easy Explanation
2K Sports sucks at making games

True
I’m a 360 guy so its my only choice. I’m stuck with their horrible gameplay and apparently faulty rosters.

2nd
This game doesn’t look nearly as bad as last year’s game in the 2 hours or so that I’ve played so far.

NBA 2k9 is actually pretty good. But The Show is way better

Second that.
Brian McCann is the future of our organization.

You are looking at the wrong guy. The is a guy on the AAA team whose initials are T H (the name is Japanese I think) but he has Tommy Hanson’s real birthday and he is a decent minor league pitcher already on there.
Frenchy is a 78 if I remember correctly
The game is pretty good so far from what I have been playing, I really enjoyed the difficulty in the pitching they had last year and I’m not as enthused about not being able to switch back to it from the new one. But aside from this the game is pretty enjoyable so far. The new pitching mechanism is a bit easier to use and the physics engine is great. If they could take the gameplay from this and combine it with the presentation from MLB 09 gamesthey would have the perfect baseball game.

actually it looks like a roster update today got rid of the tommy hanson player, which is weird.

Can you switch to the old school, simple controls in this version? I don’t like all the new-fangled stick crap.

Yeah the timing control options are still there.
And one last thing that I like about this one is you can actually work the count! I have about 6 walks as a team through 5 team games. I’ve never seen a baseball game where you can actually get genuine walks. Also there is an entire section of Saber stats to look over in the Franchise mode.

Ok, I was on the fence, but now that I can use the wuss controls, I’m gonna get it. And get nothing done…ever again.

I picked up MLB 09 the show and it is the same way for not having the real minor league players. There is going to be a roster update next week though so maybe they will be real this time
by jack dein on Mar 3, 2009 10:50 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think they can have real minor league names because they aren’t part of the MLBPA until they reach the majors. I know 2K9 has the live roster updates like the basketball games did this past season, so stats and rosters will be updated constantly during the season.
by yondaime4 on Mar 3, 2009 11:04 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That is
exactly what it is. If they are a Top 100 prospect, the games usually put them at their appropriate levels with their initials the same but a different the name. For example, Jordan Schafer, JS = John Smith.

I miss...
the All-Star baseball series. ASB 99 for n64 was a GREAT game. Much, much better than the current mlb games.

eh, they were fun but I hated the statistical problems in the games. it would stop tracking all kinds of different stats properly by about midseason. really annoying glitch that was never fixed in any iteration of the series
by yondaime4 on Mar 4, 2009 2:25 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That happened in the World Series Baseball line on Sega too. It was with the counting stats; if you reached a certain number, they’d go back to zero. I had McGriff hitting like .447 in one game and .001 in the next.

I usually played the game one at a time vs another player so that particular glitch wasn’t a problem for me. The game was too easy vs the comp but against another player, it was, imo, the best baseball game. EA’s were ok but I didn’t like the gameplay nearly as much

It looks like i’m not the only one who is anal about having the rosters just right, so that makes me feel better. If anyone has gotten a MLB2k9 for Wii, let me know how it is, and if it is worth making the jump from 2k8, which i wasn’t all that pleased with.
Your source for blind optimism.

I’ve always been an EA Sports MVP 2005 guy, but the community only recently stopped releasing updated rosters and photos, so I haven’t played it much in a while.

I normally go to BA’s or BP’s top-100 prospect list and take the time to edit the names of all the players that make it into the game. Last night I only found about 20 minor leaguers on the list (which is the lowest I’ve found in the last couple years), and the only one from the Braves was Shaffer. I don’t understand why Hanson wouldn’t be there when he’s, what, 22? They had Eric Hosmer, Tim Beckam, and Jarrod Parker…all 19…in the game. I guess because made they were high draft picks?
Anyway, the main reason I get the game is because my roommate and I like to do the franchise mode and fantasy draft our own teams. In this years game it appears as though the pitch location indicator doesn’t fade like it did last season, so it’s blatantly obvious where the pitch is going to be thrown when you’re playing on the same system. Sure, you still have to guess what pitch it’ll be but the first game we played last night was 12-10 cause the batters were just crushing every pitch.
Anyone know how to get rid of the stupid indicator?

there should be an option in controls. If you look at the batting controls in the middle at the bottom of the screen is the option to switch back to classic controls and to switch on/off the indicator. If thats not right it will be under ‘prensentation’ in the options menu.
by yondaime4 on Mar 4, 2009 12:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Checked all that…couldn’t get rid of it. Went to the 2k9 and 360 forums and was told that you can’t get rid of it. I think that’s ludicrous, and it puts a huge damper on the game in my eyes…but whatever.

Roster Oddities
In the Braves Minor League system, they don’t have Tommy Hanson, but they do have the following guys:
Greg Creek (Guy Cook)
Carl Loadenthal (Claudio Lian)
J.C. Holt (J.T. somethingerother)
Kala Ka’aihue (Karl Kapler)
Diory Hernandez (Desha Hidalgo)
Van Pope (Victor Pablo)
Javier Guzman (Jaime Gomez)
Matt Young (Mark Yan)
And that’s just with a quick perusing of the rosters.
Effin’ weird.

I heard a bunch of prospects were inexplicably in the free agent pool for some reason.
They found Beckham and LaPorta there.

I had the game on friday and almost all of the top prospects were where they should be on their respective teams but they did a roster update on launch day yesterday and it looks like everything is fubar now. My franchise has the right guys but the regular rosters.
Here is the workaround on the 360:
Go to your memory management and select the 2k9 file and find the roster save and delete it. The load the game while signed out of Xbox live and change one thing on the rosters and save the new rosters under a diffferent file name. that way you will have a hard copy of the original roster file that the game came with.

Have you guys run into the awesome OF glitch?
They will be standing under the ball and then the game won’t catch it. It usually results in an automatic triple.
by BullManUGA on Mar 4, 2009 2:30 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
yeah that one hit me too, it has been in past iterations. i think it has something to do with the player taking control of the OF right when he is lining up there ball.

Again....
Sorry if I get out of hand just trying to help with this. I found the Hanson clone in the free agent pool with the new rosters: Tim Harikkala: he is a 69 overall and born August 28, 1986. 6’ 5" yada yada. I guess when the roster update added Anderson it moved Hanson off in a spill down effect.

Jason Heyward
is James Hunter in the free agent pool

Thanks for the help.
I would have never been able to match them up.
by BullManUGA on Mar 4, 2009 3:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That’s funny, cause Tim Harikkala was a real life pitcher for a few teams in the Majors.

Unless he was pitching in the majors at the age of 8, I think it may be a different person.

speaking of which you should take a look at the major league time of some of the fake players. I think Kenshin Kawakami’s guy has like 19 seasons of pro ball under his belt even though he is like 33 or something. Kinda funny

im not sure but i think theyre the oens who put out MLB Front Office Manager, complete garbage, Brian Roberts is a 55. The jerseys are screwed up, check out the Red Sox away jersey, its grey with blue numbers and name, instead of red.

MLB 09 The Show
The game atmosphere when you play is better on 2k9 but the actual graphics, gameplay and Franchise mode is so much better on The Show. I actually am just about finished with the Braves AAA and AA rosters. Im gonna do all the teams. If anyone has any interest i might be able to get them out to ya.
