Andruw v. Ozzie, WAR
Myself and another guy at BtB got into it over these two defensive stalwarts, so Sky did a graph. Cool stuff.

+Many defensive metrics show Andruw dropping off well before 2007, but bUZR, interestingly.
Ozzie was an awesome defender, up there with Belanger and Frank Robinson in whatever combination of peak and career defensive runs saved algorithm you pick.
And he was underrated as a hitter for his peak years. But he STILL is actually borderline HoFamer. As much as fielding is underrated these days, +30 runs per season is really the cap, while it’s more like +70 runs for offense, or +100 for guys like Bonds.
This is a case, and maybe for Jones, too, where these guys were really really good, they did something better than almost everyone ever, but aren’t among the best 100 or 150 or whatever players of all time. And that shouldn’t take anything away from them.
Beyond the Boxscore // Calling BJ Upton lazy is lazy.
I'm actually doing some very preliminary work on Hall standards & WAR
so Jones and especially Ozzie Smith are two very interesting cases for me. Both were insanely good at one thing, and that’s something the voters seem to reward. Rally’s recently debuted work on historic WAR have been a godsend!
