My fantasy team
I did my draft a week ago and its a ten team league and i picked 7th in the first. It's a simple league with hitters getting points for hits, runs, walks, home runs, stolen bases, and RBI. While pitchers get points for innings, strikeouts, and lose points for hits, walks, and runs allowed. You have to have 5 starting pitchers and 2 closers.
C. Russell Martin
1B. Mark Teixeira
2B. Ian Kinsler
3B. Ryan Zimmerman
SS. Stephen Drew
OF. Carl Crawford, Alex Rios, and Alfonso Soriano
U. Miguel Cabrera
SP. Matt Cain, Cliff Lee, Justin Verlander, Jered Weaver, and Brandon Webb
RP. Francisco Cordero and Joakim Soria
Bench Mike Aviles, Adrian Beltre, Erik Bedard, Jair Jurrjens, and Brandon Morrow

I hope everyone keeps up with your league the whole year – I did a league last year that had “negative” categories and the owners that quit in May led all those week-by-week. It may be more realistic, but it’s just not feasible in my opinion to have it that way.

I’ve had to pimp my league a little bit too much for my liking but I still have one spot open in the Talking Chop vs Good Phight league. Someone email me at jegatlaw@gmail.com and I’ll send you the league invite. Its a head to head, 14 team league.

too much of a Braves homer to play fantasy baseball adequately.
Seriously man.
I count 8 braves on your roster
11 if you count former braves.
This is a bad team.
Helton is terrible and undrafted in my leagues. You have minimal power, minimal steals, and a LOT of injury risk with Chipper, Bradley, Drew, Beckett.
This team finishes no better than 5th or 6th.
by mrsoprano on Mar 25, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
we shall see.
I beileve your wrong about helton. Mark my words. and yes there are alot of Braves players names because although i dont follow baseball as much im more familiar with these players. Homer or not. with these injury risk you have high talent players also when they do play they put up numbers.

marked and stored away.
Helton obviously was taking some sort of supplementation. He hasnt been the Todd Helton everyone knew in the early 2000’s for 4 seasons. Hes finished.
now mark my words. You will not finish higer than 6th place in a 12 team league.
by mrsoprano on Mar 25, 2009 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Just wondering
Do you remember when he was good? (todd helton) You know the last 4 seasons he declined because of back problems which he has corrected and missed most of last season.
Just for your info. This spring he is leading the team in homers 4 and his batting average even though its early is .348

I’m still trying to figure out who you drafted in the first 3 rounds…because aside from Sabathia, I really don’t see any top 3 round picks there.

Sabathia, Ichiro, Chipper
For some reason i think i have a well balanced team. We will really see once the season starts but Sabathia, Becket, wainwright, are all very solid starters i know i dont have alot of power potential but i think ill more then make up for it in other areas such as BA, and quality starts.

No offense, but that’s some poor value…Chipper especially. MDP of each is the following:
Sabathia = 21.60 overall
Ichiro = 31.44 overall
Chipper = 57.05 overall

^ Look at those numbers
You picked all these guys too soon…the other teams in your league are that much better because they were able to get players that you should have got.

by bwellnjonesco on Mar 25, 2009 4:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I kinda don’t want to know what this guy’s pick was in the first round. Sabathia picked with the last pick of the 1st round (10? 12?) is the best case scenario, but when you realize that he then took Ichiro with the first pick of the 2nd round…well…it’s not good.

Keeper League
I’m in a Keeper League which you keep 10. My draft is Friday night. Here is my roster as of right now:
C- Russ Martin
1B- Adrian Gonzalez
SS- Jose Reyes
3B- Miguel Cabrera (yes he still has 3B)
CF- Jacoby Ellsbury
SP- Fransico Lirano
SP- Tim Lincecum
SP- RIch Harden
RP – Mike Gonzalez
RP- Jonathan Paplebon.
I had Frank Cordero as one of my relievers as well last year and actually took flak from a friend for keeping Gonzo (personally hes a stud as a closer). I finished 3rd so I have a late first rounder. The league counts holds for pitchers (there is about 10 or so stats for each batter/pitcher). I was planning on grabbing Moylan and Soriano for the holds along with taking a flyer on Kawakami and possibly Frenchy late as a back up. Most people kept a second baseman so my options really are Jose Lopez (Sea), KJ and Aki Iwamora (TB).
Thoughts…

I hate keeper leagues where you keep basically the entire team.
that kills a draft.
my keeper league is 3 keepers. either 2 hitters and 1 pitcher or 2 pitchers and one hitter.
Draft night is still a fun event.

Much like a NCAA bracket
Some old lady who thinks Albert Pujols is such a nice man, and that Derek Jeter has soothing eyes, and that she has an uncle who was named “Halladay”, and also somehow nails both AL and NL comeback players, because they’re from where she was born, and lives in where she lives now, for massive stat points, and she’s attracted to Mike Gonzalez’s gyrating while he ends up leading the league in saves. And she will obliterate every single one of you.
