Good question...
1. Hank Aaron
This one shouldn’t be in much doubt, though I could see Maddux having an argument for this spot. Any player that maintains a .405 wOBA over a 20+ year career is going to be a top 5 player in any team’s list, save for maybe the Yankees.
2. Greg Maddux
Probably the best right hander in the game during the 90s, one of the top 10 right handers ever. Best two-seam fastball I’ve ever seen.
3. Chipper Jones
I’ll be honest, this was a tough one because I can see the next two guys here as well. In the end, Chipper’s career .310/.408/.548 batting line and beastly 1999 campaign won me over.
4. Andruw Jones
I can see how this one would surprise some Atlanta fans, but Jones in my mind should be a lock for the Hall of Fame. In the seasons for which we have UZR fielding data, here’s how Andruw has stacked up to the rest of the ML’s center fielders
2002 – +20.8 (2nd)
2003 – +21.7 (1st)
2004 – +26.5 (1st)
2005 – +30.1 (1st)
2006 – +14.8 (2nd)
2007 – +24.3 (1st)
2008 – did not qualify
Andruw hasn’t simply been good, he’s been unprecedentedly good. Since UZR has been available, no fielder at any position has been as valuable as Andruw Jones. By the way, the 2005 NL Wins Above Replacement leaderboard:
1. Andruw Jones, +8.7 wins
2. Albert Pujols, +7.7 wins
3. Derrek Lee, +7.5 wins
4. Chase Utley, +7.3
5. Morgan Ensberg, +6.4 wins
In my mind, Andruw’s status is contingent on Chipper’s fielding – I’m assuming Chipper spent most of his career as a league-average 3B. If he was ~10 runs below average as a fielder, Andruw would overtake him.
5. John Smoltz
Dominant starter, dominant closer, and then dominant starter again? Check. Smoltz had issues with health in the middle and tail end of his career, but when healthy he was as good as any pitcher in baseball. Mid 90s heat + nasty slider + unhittable splitter = Smoltz.
6. Tom Glavine
There’s a good argument to be made that Glavine is the most overrated pitcher of the 90s – a durable guy with mid-grade stuff, excellent control, and the benefit of playing in front of some excellent defenses. He never had a K/BB ratio better than 2.8 and only posted one above 2 six times in his career. Still, he managed to nibble his way to 300 wins, and his consistency was admirable.
7. Dale Murphy
Excellent peak, very little on either side of it. He’s a bubble Hall of Famer.
8. Phil Niekro
See Glavine, Tom. Similar in that they made great careers on throwing junk 35 times a year for two decades.
9. Gary Sheffield
In his two years here, he was a +12 win player. One of the best hitters I’ve ever seen.
10. John Scheurholz
Yeah, he should probably be #1, but I wanted to do a mostly players list. Easily one of the best General Managers the game has ever seen – 15 consecutive division titles is unlikely to ever be matched.

Crazy that he was +12 over the course of two years
or crazy that I even considered him?
He wasn’t here long, but he was great for us.

Hank Aaron
Hank Aaron would be in the top 3 Yankees of All-Time in my opinion. Maybe number 2. Even if you rank Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Mantle higher, he’s still fifth. But, I think only Ruth was better.
1 Hank Aaron
2 Greg Maddux
3 Chipper Jones
4 John Smoltz
5 Fred Mcgriff How can he be left off the list?
6 Bobby Cox/ Leo Mazzone Cant give one credit without the other.
7 Dale Murphy Should be higher I guess.
8 Tom Glavine
9 Phil Neikro could probably still pitch
10 Ted Turner Where would we be without him in the 90’s

Glavine won 2 Cy Youngs and finished top 3 4 more times.
McGriff played in Atlanta 4 and a half seasons and top 20ed in the MVP voting twice.
Is this just too stupefying for anyone else to comprehend?
SWAGGA LIKE BJONES, SWAGGA LIKE BJONES
All I am saying is when McGriff came in he lit he braves up in a way Tex couldnt even do.
I never said Glavine wasn’t good. He has meant alot to the Braves success. However I think the trade that brought McGriff in was one of the best ever and we were automatic for the playoffs when he came here. I know he only played four and some odd seasons and at the end he was sucking it up on defense, but when he got here that team drove fear into every NL team out there.
