Detroit?????
Apparently, D. Willis is moments from being cut from the tigers. He has struggled throughout spring training and doesn't seem anywhere close to becoming a starter.
Would Reyes interest the tigers? What could we get for him.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on possible trade partners?

Not really sure what your getting at here. They played most of last year without Willis so I’m sure they weren’t counting on him to be better this year. I’d rather hold onto Reyes because he doesn’t have that much value. You might be able to package him with someone else and trade him at mid season.
I agree with jack dein. i say the braves keep all their guys for now (unless a crazy offer comes that we cant turn down) and save em up for a midseason trade for a guy like Holliday, Halladay, Ankiel, etc. You can never have too many pitchers and/or prospects.
GO BRAVES.
Be quick, but don't hurry.
You made me get off on a different thought. If we were able to trade for Holliday or Ankiel at the deadline would we have enough money to sign them to an extension. I really don’t want to trade for a player again and then see them leave after the season. If we were able to get Holliday in a trade I would like to lock him up for many years because he could be that bat that replaces Chipper. I guess what I’m wondering is roughly how much money are we going to have next year.
I dont know, I would like to hlod on to Jo Jo but the Tigers have been known to blow someone away with trades.
No one has forgotton about Jurjjins and Hernandez for Edgar. How did that work out for them compared to how it worked out for us. Keep the phone lines open Wren.

Some of the most fucking annoying stuff. Post a joke or anecdote or something. Haithcock does not approve.
Oh, Bobby.
I’ve always thought that if you couldn’t write enough and had to use filler it probably wasn’t worth writing in the first place.
Something this post really doesn’t have. Who should we trade for with Detroit? What does Dontrelle Willis have to do with this? Are you suggesting we should trade for D-Train? Are you suggesting that the Tigers are willing to trade because D-Train has been derailed?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Sorry guys. I was already hitting bottle when I typed this up.
Had a great day at work and went home early to celebrate. Horrible post. Just drunken shit.
The ironic part is that some of Charmin’s posts in threads are incredibly long.

They usually also have nothing to do with baseball.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I think we’d be foolish to trade Reyes unless we get some nice value in return. While inconsistent, JoJo has shown he can be dominant at the major league level and has pitched well this spring. IMO, he’s the first call up when we have a starter injury.
As an aside, its sad to see what’s happened to Willis. That kid was fun to watch. He was good for baseball.
Sadly
Jo-Jo Reyes probably has more value than a guy that won 22 games just a few years ago, right now. For lack of a better term, Willis has been kind of the equivalent of Andruw Jones – on the pitching mound; ironically, 2005 was the year that he too had his monster season. But for reasons completely unknown, he has fallen off of this cliff with no indication that he’ll ever make it back out. Like Andruw, Willis had knee problems, but it still seems murky why he hasn’t bounced back yet.
Willis was mature enough to realize his need for refining, and accepted his demotion to the minors, but he couldn’t even figure it out in Single-A. To say that there’s probably something mental blocking his potential would be believable.
Jo-Jo could interest the Tigers, maybe. But after the Renteria/Jurrjens&Infante deal, and the Braves unloading Macay McBride onto the Tigers, I doubt they’d want to do business with Atlanta any time soon.

Here’s an interesting article on D-Train: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/the-d-trains-mechanics-a-video-analysis/
If you compare his ‘05 delivery w/ his current delivery, his tempo is considerably slower. I’m not a pitching coach, but it seems fixable. Not saying we should trade for him, but I think he can dig himself out of the whole he’s in.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."

Someone was pointing this out on Sickels site a couple days ago with Prior. His delivery slowed down tremendously between his draft year and 05-06 and that helped unravel him a little (also extreme over work from Dusty Baker)
Dusty Baker = The Devil
I never understood why he got to coach an All-Star team. Makes me nauseous thinking about it.

WHAT I SHOULD HAVE POSTED BUT DIDN'T DUE TO CROWN ROYAL.
It’s apparent that Detroit has a very weak starting rotation this year. With Verlander, Jackson, and possibly Bonderman leading the rotation it’s apparent that Detroit needs help. Despite their horrible rotation they still have a very potent lineup that will keep them in games.
As everyone knows, the city of Detroit is struggling and ticket revenues are somewhat of an unknown in 2009. Typically, you keep your payroll within 10% of revenue in order to establish a conservative business model that is still profitable. Detroit’s starting payroll will be $120 Million. Revenue’s realistically might be $100 Million and therefore the tigers are putting themselves at risk.
With the current economical conditions it would be in Detroit’s best interest to explore any moves possible to lower payroll and bring in prospects and young mlb ready pitching like Jackson (Jackson is not great but he accomplishes what they need).
Now, what FAT can be trimmed in order to accomplish the above mentioned plan?
Ordonez is due 15-18 million and has a 3 million dollar buyout next year. He has two years of options at 15 million and needs to be moved despite his productivity. If Detroit eats 7 Million of the contract for 2009 they would have numerous suitors with young talent.
Sheffield is due 13 million and can still hit. Yes, his stat’s are down but he is still a viable impact player. Once again, Detroit should eat half of his contract and move him. He’s useless to them and they could bring in young cheaper talent.
Guillen 10,13,13 million threw 2011 can be moved
Polanco should have been an offseason trade to the Cardinals, Dodgers, or Angles. All of those teams have good farm systems and would have helped the tigers in the long term.
Unfortunately, the tigers hype last year is very similar to Dontrelle Willis career in Detroit. There was potential for big things. It didn’t work but everyone decided to be patient and let themselves work out. Now on the dawn of the 2009 season it looks as if they need to make hard decisions and move on.
Are there any Detroit pieces worth Reyes, Morton, Brandon Jones, Josh Anderson, Blanco, Parr, etc…..Would Wren trade for Ordonez with a 10 million dollar tag that has options for two years? Yes, those options are pricey but it gives Wren flexibility with bringing up our young OF talent like Jason. He also brings exactly what we lack (Right handed power bat).
Should the Wren make the call?
You coulldn't be more correct
Maggs hit 21 homers last year while done hit 40. Maggs is five years older then Dunn. While Maggs well be making 18 million to hit 21 homers Dunn well get paid 10 to hit 45.
Reyes for Dontrelle Willis??
Have you lost your mind?
Clearly!!!!!
What does the WBC have anything to do with major league baseball and value. These guys are all not up to par with their performance in the WBC. Chipper didnt hit a lick all though he was hurt still he was bad. Does that drop his value? Hell no Chipper is still the man. Dunn gets paid to hit homers not to play D I dont know why he is still playing in the NL. Well yeah but back to you Charmin who names their self after Toilet paper and then calls people a cunt you are funny. Please do me a favor and stop posting your irrelevant thoughts on here.
Hmmmm "Clearly"!!!!!!!!
I was just saying that Dunn is a horrible fielder (ie: WBC example). That’s not a fluke, Dunn is known for his lack of defense. Take away about 10 HR’s and 25 RBI’s a year and that’s actually what your paying for when you calculate his defense. I get what your saying. However, this point has been argued by more than just me. In fact I’d say this board at one point was completely split on Dunn for both of the reasons you and I brought up.
The point is moot at this time so I’m gonna move on. Make fun of my name. hahahahahah toilet paper!!!!! He’s so stupid. hahahahahahh toilet paper and C-word kinda go together hahahahhahha!!!!!! I’d explain it to you but it’s not worth it. Obviously, I don’t mind the toilet paper analogy if I choose it as my name.
I’ll do you no favors “that a boy”. See you around.
Good Job!
Nice comeback post Charmin…
