The first person that came to mind after reading this post was Prado. I don't really know of anything the Astros have that we could use (sans Berkman, Lee, and Oswalt) and I know they don't have a very good farm. So I suppose I may be way off.

They legitimately have nothing to trade. Their system is so barren…there is literally nothing at all they could trade.

Ugh

The Astros have literally the worst looking organization, top to bottom, in the entirety of major league baseball.
- They have two legitimate players that other teams would be willing to trade for: Lance and Roy. Hunter Pence may count, but I see him totally going down the Jeff Francoeur career path.
- Their best prospect is a catcher (Jason Castro) who can’t hit, who they also drafted over one of the best pure hitters (Justin Smoak) in the draft. That was entirely a gut reaction from having drafted crap in a bucket catcher Max Sapp a couple years ago, and deciding that the corpse of Brad Ausmus was more important than getting someone that could, you know, actually hit.
- Their former best pitching prospect (Felipe Paulino) doesn’t ever actually pitch, rather deciding that the disabled list is a much better place to be.
- They decided to non-tender one of their most productive hitters (Ty Wigginton) to sign a guy who may or may not play baseball again (Aaron Boone…who may actually have better stats if he didn’t play) and a catcher with no defense, no power, and no concept of taking a walk. Which, again, is sadly better than the alternative.
- What alternatives? Humberto Quintero and his .568 OPS, or JR Towles and his .503 OPS. That’s mind-boggling.
- Their two biggest “prospect” trades stripped their farm system for a pitcher whose arm is falling off (Jason Jennings) and a 70 year old shortstop (Miguel Tejada). But who cares, because those prospects sucked anyway!
- They traded away their best trade chip (Brad Lidge) for Michael Bourn (and his stellar .588 OPS!), significantly contributing to last year’s WS champions.

I could go on but I have work to do.

Carlos Lee is a legit hitter, but he’s not getting any younger and that contract is kind of a show.

Lee

No one in his right mind would trade for Lee’s absurd contract, despite his obvious ability to put up awesome fantasy baseball stats.

By your avatar, I assume that you live in Texas and are thus familiar with the woes of said Astros and their fans?

Houston born and raised

But a Braves fan since like age 6. Strange, I know.

Anyhow, even when the Astros were winning, ownership still didn’t have a clue. Hunsicker was a solid GM, and many speculate the reason he left was the meddling hands of Drayton McClane. Now that Gerry’s left, management aptitude is on the same level as ownership. Spectacular.

I had the misfortune of seeing 2 Astros games when I was in Florida last week. Real nice park…but god. I was talking to a fan who was laughing at the misery of their kids. I legitimately didn’t know who anyone younger than 25 was for the mostpart. I also saw Bourn try to make 2 highlight reel catches, and drop the ball each time. So awesome.

But don’t hate on JR Towles, he hit a foul ball right towards me that I one handed.

Good call on Kissimmee being full of old folks. But if you really want to see some fogies, check out Bradenton. Average age of that town is 87.

Also, say your boy Matt Bush today…at Blue Jays minor league camp.

DID HE SIGN ANY CARDS!??!?! Or did he try to start a fight with you? How was Dunedin? We didn’t go at all despite it being RIGHT THERE, and I really would have liked to have because I wanted to see Snider.

Yeah, Bush was cool as hell. Bryan Bullington should take a lesson from him on how to fail with class. Dunedin was cool. We ended up not even going to the Major League stadium. The made getting autographs by the parking lot pretty impossible so we said screw it the first day and the second day we heard the Pirates guys were coming in with Pedro Alvarez and Jose Tabata, so we hung out there.

Along with Bullington and Bush, Chad Mottolla is a coach for the Jays. He was like the 5th overall pick in 92 and was the next coming when he was on his way up. A decade later, he barely played in the majors, became a journeyman AAA guy and is now a coach. All these kids that think they’re the shit need to take a history lesson. But still, most guys are cool.
