Actually

More interesting would be to sign AK for the minimum and shift KJ to LF. I’ve read that any amount AK signs for gets offset dollar-for-dollar against the $4M STL owes him, so he really would just be looking for an opportunity to play.

hm…I didn’t know there was an offsetting procedure like that…interesting…

Yup

In other words, Adam Kennedy doesn’t give a rat’s ass what ATL would pay him, assuming it won’t be more than $4M. (It won’t.)

Dont need him...

We already have KJ, and he’s so much better and younger… KJ in LF? thats not going to solve our problem…we dont need just a player to play LF, if thats the case I would rather settle with Diaz, or Blanco…We need a power bat…

Adam Kennedy isn't a good player

And I don’t want him in a Braves uniform in any capacity.

I think the post was to raise the question about a trade to ST. Louis for Ludwick, not to pick up Kennedy

I saw this and got pissed, because I knew everyone would start jumping one of two bandwagons…

1) WE CAN SIGN ADAM KENNEDY AND MOVE KJ TO THE OF AND THAT WILL CAUSE AT LEAST +20 RUNS DEFENSIVELY
2) HOLY SHIT THEY’RE GONNA TRADE LUDWICK OR ANKIEL FOR KJ NOW ITS ONNNNN SON

Myself? I’m in the whole “oh god, let him sign with the Mets and have Tony LaRussa announce Aaron Miles as his starter”

Yup

I knew that was going to happen as well. I don’t want Adam Kennedy on the team If anyone wants to know why, just look at his numbers from the last 2 years. I don’t think the Braves would sign someone who has hit like that and been injured. Even when he is not injured he is not great.

I still don’t believe the Braves will trade KJ for a 30 year old OF or Ankiel who is a Boras client and one year from free agency. You would think they have learned their lesson on that end. I would love to see him start at 2B for the Mets…or better yet (actually worse for the Mets) have him platoon with Castillo.

2008

AK was worth almost 2 wins over replacement last year, per fangraphs.

Good for him. I still don’t want him.

by bengoodfella on Feb 9, 2009 5:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Regarding Option #1

If Kennedy is signed for league minimum, or even a minor league contract with an invite to ST, isn’t that a good move? I mean, he is a very good defensive 2B, and if we’re not sold on a platoon of Blanco/Anderson/B. Jones/Diaz/Borchard/Komminsk in LF, and we’re not signing/trading for an “impact bat”, doesn’t it make sense?

No

Because the only good field no-hit player bigjoe can lobby for on the league minimum is Andruw.

I think the original post said trade Kelly Johnson for Ludwick, which would open up 2B for Martin Prado or someone else. I just don’t see why the Braves would essentially trade a crappy LF platoon for a crappy 2B platoon. Trading KJ for Ludwick would do that.

I will relent on this. If Adam Kennedy is signed for the league minimum or an invite to Spring Training only I would take a risk on that, but regardless of whatever the magical numbers say, I don’t want him playing 2B for the Braves. I am fine with Adam Kennedy as a late inning defensive replacement but I am not fine with him holding down the 2B job permanently.

I saw on MLBTR that the Cardinals released him. Most of the Cardinals fans said that in an interview with the Cardinals GM they were going to fill the position internally. They are discussing moving Shumaker to second. Most of them felt that a trade is unlikely.

by jack dein on Feb 9, 2009 4:52 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yes they will do a Shumaker try out in ST like we did with KJ and see if he can play 2B…Though I would still think that you would still keep AK till they could figured out if their internal option would pan out first. AK wanted to be traded late last year and the cards won’t eat some of his contract to either to the D Back or Padres …Now they get stuck with his 4 mil…. But the idea it would open spot in OF for their #1 Prospect Rasmus

by Hanson-Ace on Feb 9, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

from what I heard La Rusa pushed hard for Kennady to get released

by jack dein on Feb 9, 2009 7:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Why would the Cards trade Ludwick? If he performs like he did last year then it’s gravy. He’ll justify the money he earns in arb, they sign him to a four year deal and they deal with a 35 year old average outfielder. If he doesn’t then he was who we thought he was and they get a better corner outfielder next year. Getting a solid corner outfielder isn’t as hard as the Braves are making it out to be.

by rocket8188 on Feb 10, 2009 6:19 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Nor is it as cut-and-dry as you’re making it out to be.

by bravesfan91 on Feb 10, 2009 7:01 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ludwick will not have the same year. Last year was a fluke and I don’t want anybody from St. Louis outfield unless his last name is Rasmus and they won’t let him go trust me.

by bravesrbaseball on Feb 10, 2009 9:00 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

why was it a fluke.. what evidence do u have of this… I have evidence to the contrary that he is a very good player

I don’t question Ludwick and his ability, only his health and we do not need another health risk on this team.

well then his season wasnt really a fluke… he is that good… u just think that he will get injurd.. thats an argument im willing to listen to and understnad… but anyone who thinks he isnt at the least an above avg Corner OF is wrong.
