Rangers Sign Andruw Jones
From the NY Post:
The Rangers New York Rangers will announce in the next few days that they have signed center fielder Andruw Jones to a minor league contract that will pay him a base salary of $500,000 if he makes the majors, the Post has learned.
Jones will also have an opportunity to make $1 million more in bonuses, but to earn that total, he would have to be close to a full-time player, which is dubious at best.
At least we can stop worrying about whether he will come back to Atlanta. I'm glad we didn't give him a contract. Andruw needs to prove himself and find himself and the Braves don't have the patience for that. This also makes me think that the Braves have other options they believe will play out and fill their left field vacancy.

is he playing hockey now?
why would he turn down minor league offers from atlanta and NYY, but sign one with the rangers?

And they are most definitely not “over-rated.”

And don’t forget the Hitting Coach factor as well.

Hitting Coach
Rudy Jaramillo was supposedly part of the reason he chose TX over NYY.

I wish all the best once again to andruw, and once again but this time to the rangers not he dodgers have fun watching the ugliest falldown strike out king of all time.

Jaramillo’s a great hitting coach, and this is a good move for Andruw. If he can’t get his act back together with Jaramillo, then he’s done, and I’d much prefer the Rangers deal with that than the Braves.

It's all about..
…his willingness to take instruction and work on his swing, not to mention not looking like the Pillsbury Dough Boy when he reports to Spring Training.
by RainDelay on Feb 8, 2009 1:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
RainDelay, That he chose the Rangers because of Jaramillo demonstrates the sort a realization that could indicate the willingness to take instruction and maybe even shed a few pounds. I wish Andruw the best, but I’m glad he’s the Rangers’ problem, not the Braves’.

NY Rangers signing Andruw?
Does this mean we hope that the L.A. Kings sign Glavine?

Dyess, unfortunately. Abilene, Texas may not be the armpit of the US, but it could easily be the nostril.

Andruw a juicer?
What is the consensus on Andruw? Do you think he was steroid user?
by Fortune favors the brave(s) on Feb 10, 2009 3:18 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
if by steroids you mean arbys, mcdonalds, wendys, burger king, etc. then yes, he is.
if you mean actual roids no, he was a very skilled player for many years basing alot of value on his defense and his power pulling the ball. the numbers fluctuated, but he didnt really ever get ripped, just tubby. just another case of unrealized potential.
