The pitching staff has finally started to shape up. What are your feelings on who will be the odd man out in both the rotation and the pen?
The first four starters seem rather set with Lowe, Jurrjens, Vazquez, and Kawakami in some order. Tom Glavine's future with Atlanta is still in doubt (though I think we will resign him). It looks as though Glavine, Campillo, Morton, and Reyes will compete for the #5 starter (likely nod to Glavine).
The Pen is getting crowded. You know Boyer, Acosta, Gonzalez, Bennett, and Carlyle are, at the moment, healthy and ready to throw. Moylan and Soriano are coming off surgeries but should be set within the first month or so. It seems that Ridgeway, Logan, and O'Flaherty might get the opportunity to get a month long tryout until Moylan is 100%.
Two questions raised.
1. If we resign Ohman, who is the odd man out? If we don't resign Ohman, do we even keep a lefty specialist?
2. Is it possible that, with bench players like Norton, Infante, and Prado who can all play multiple positions in both the infield and outfield, that Cox might opt to go with 13 hurlers and 12 position players (instead of 12 and 13 like usual)?
nb. Still nice to have that many arms in the bullpen. Gives us a little insurance when someone breaks down (which will inevitably happen). Will be an interesting spring training either way.
