ESPN Report: Bud Selig got 22% raise in '07, makes over $18M
In case anyone is interested... I think it is sort of disgusting he gets paid that much, but that's just me.

Considering the disgusting amount of money the sport makes in general, this doesn’t even seem that bad.

It does when you consider how awful he is at the job. His handling of the recent All-Star games in particular and the suspended WS game have just been embarrassing.
I’ve also yet to figure out why one League has 16 teams and the other has 14, but maybe that’s just the OCD in me talking.

Because if you do 15 in each, there has to be an interleague series going at all times. And interleague play = money.

What about the recent All star games, other than the one that ended in a tie, and frankly, who really cared? It’s an exhibition game. And I didn’t have any problem with the suspended WS game; it’s the freakin World Series, make them play 9!
If you’re gonna get on Bud Selig for anything, make it for completely ruining any integrity the game had left by being a willing and complicit part of the Steroids Era.

Having a exhibition game decide home field in the WS
as an overreaction to one exhibition game ending in a tie. The “this one counts” BS hanging over this years game as it went into extra innings, risking pitchers being overextending in an otherwise meaningless game (rather than coming up with a better system of determining a winner if the game is tied at the end of 9).
As for the suspended WS game, the fact that the whole thing came up as a surprise to the fans/players rather than being an established rule on the books that everyone was aware of.
And then, yes, there’s his hypocritical bullshit with regard to the steroid era

Holy shit…I had no idea
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

For all the reasons given...
…I’m not a fan of Selig.
The fact that the AS game now has to count for something, that he apparently knew about WS rain delay but failed to tell anyone, that he turned his head while steroids ran rampant, that he looks completely bored any time he’s shown at a game, he presided of the ’94 strike, keeps Pete Rose out of the HOF, and introduced interleague play, among other things.
Now, some positives: I like having wild card teams.
I guess my problem is really though, that MLB is laying off staff while Selig gets a 22% raise. Call me a communist, but that seems wrong.
I am not sure how much NFL Commish Roger Goodell makes now, but last year it was incredible too at $11.2M.
Meh, I guess I’m in the wrong business…

how can u not like interleague play… besides the ridiculous matchups (i.e. the Braves playing the Red Sox)?
i think its cool… moslty cause it gives me to see the Braves play in Tampa every once in a while

I don’t like it because it takes away games from teams you could be fighting against for the Wild Card. I’d take those 20 games and put them back in the league and let teams have a little more control of their own destiny, rather than playing meaningless exhibition games during the season. Cut it down to one or two series against real rivals, so the Mets and Yankees and White Sox and Cubs can play each other, and play some games that matter.

I think 30-40 years ago and before when guys never changed teams I would have loved it. But now guys move around so much all you need is a little patience and everybody will face everybody else soon enough.
