Are you #$*(#%* kidding me!?
They are now reporting that Griffey is going back to Seattle. What is up with this...twice we have guys in hand and now we have nothing! If Griffey wanted to go b back to Seattle why did he reach out to the Braves? I thought he wanted to be close to family? I thought he wanted to play for Bobby Cox? I thought he wanted another chance at the post season?
Were we used AGAIN to extract a few more dollars?
Now what? Garrett Anderson? No thanks. I will take my chances and money with Jones or Schaefer.

"OBP is not a production number, and should not be used as something he achieved."
At this point I would much rather watch B. Jones and Schafer play, versus signing an Anderson/Edmonds. Trading for Swisher will commit us to more money than we feel comfortable taking on, and for some reason I have just never been to high on Nady. If B.Jones fails miserably out of the gate, then maybe if necessary we should look at the trade front for external options after the season has started.
"There are only two seasons -- winter and Baseball"
I joked about this..but I meant it as a joke
This now puts us in a situation where our best option in LF is a platoon of Diaz and Norton. At this point I am being somewhat serious. Nortons numbers against RH:
2008 vs Right 289 .396 .444 .841
career vs. Right .260 .346 .445 .792
vs Garret Anderson
2008 v Right 293 .323 .450 .774
Career v Right 299 .334 .481 .815
Bear in mind that Anderson’s recent years look more like last year then career.
Thank god.
It wasn’t going to be good at all, he’s a DH not a fielder.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention
Good.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Well, its being reported that it was 2 million guaranteed with up to 4 million in incentives. That may be a bit much for my taste so I am glad we didn’t commit to that. Even though it would have been really cool to see Junior in left
Again I ask....
Did we just get played to create a bidding war that wasn’t there?
Good thing the Braves are here…otherwise there could be MLB players everywhere who don’t make enough to take care of their families!
I thought he approached US!?!?!?!?!?
Good Old Wren
Ok seriously. This guy is creating a bad reputaton for himself. He’s being used and abused and in the process irritating the fanbase. Seattle makes no sense for Griffey if he wants to win. Such a tool.
Are the Braves officially that team?
The one every agent in baseball uses to drive up the price of the team his client really wants to sign with?

i think we dodged a bullet. i would hate to have seen diaz in a slump the first two weeks followed by months of griffey playing every day…and sucking. he was only being pursued as a gate draw.
hopefully glavine will choose another team too.
Are you %@#&%^ kidding me II
He changed his mind over that?

what are u elduing to..
from what i read the reason he signed with the Mariners is that they offered him lifetime personal services… essentially making hiim a team employee for life… um that seems like a pretty sweet deal to me.. and theres no reason for the braves to offer that to him…
however if ur upset that griffey said he was upset that the AJC said he was a Brave, then maybe you have a leg to stand on, but i have a hard time beleiving that is the real reason he didnt sign… probably just something he made mention via quote
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

Somebody with an English degree check me on this…
“eluding” vs. “alluding”? (6th paragraph) Pfft…Professional writing indeed.
Oooh, no offense Swo, just saw your comment below…mine is directed at Bowman.
and besides
you wrote “elduing”. Not sure what it means, but I like the way it sounds when you say it really loud. Like you’re really going to eff somebody up in a south of the border kind of way. Think I’ll try shouting it at work tomorrow with my door partially closed.
u just replied to ur self twice… im not gonna lie thats impressive
and ur right i suck at life… i think it should be “alluding to” although elduing (sp intended) is also acceptable .. because i have decided it is a synonym for alluding, or in another phrase a way to eff somebody up in a south of the border kind of way… maybe ill submit that to urbandictionary later

you better submit it or I’ll eldu u up!
I’ll stop this car right now and take the present off my face.
i submitted it but they have to review it apparently, something about not wanting a bunch of yahoos submitting words that dont exist or something

those high fluting bastards decided to no publish our word… like they are the arbiters of all that is word use… if i use it in a sentence it is clearly a word..like pfrictionary, or eldu, or manbearpig, or traveshamockery
obviously the “editors” need to have their head examined (or i do its easily debatable either way)

What about Chipper?
He’s the man. But Chipper is as blameworthy (if you even care) as D-Fab. Suffice it to say … FW will be less-than-thrilled about seeing D-Fab in the locker room for a bit.

I agree...no one is to blame but ourselves...
when we hang on every friggin’ word provided by bloggers who live and die with speculation. They are the modern day version of little old ladies at the beauty parlor with all of their gossip. I would imagine that 90 per cent of us check sites like MLBTR repeatedly every day this time of year to see the latest and usually the latest is nothing but uninformed BS meant to prime the pump and keep the readers coming back for more. Somewhere it was said, and I don’t remember where, that this kind of thing almost makes you long for the days when you had to get your latest update from the morning paper. To hell with this rumor business.

At least no Terrence Moore for a while......
goodness knows he’ll be too upset to even think about writing anything.
But when he settles himself down, he’ll probably rip into Frank Wren for letting Junior get away…..
Ha!

This completely stinks
Not because we dont get Griff…I wasn’t sold on him coming here anyway, but just because of the whole “he is going to atlanta, wait, no he isnt” thing happening again. what is this, the fourth time this has happened this offseason???

ok
It was reported that Peavy was a done deal
It was reported that we were getting Burnette
Furcal
and now Griff.

Peavy was never considered a “done deal”.
We were considered “in the lead” for Burnette, but it was never reported that we had actually landed him.
-1000 for being a dick.
But
it was reported in such a way to make me believe he was coming. ESPN all but had him with an atlanta zip code. Also, it was reported that Peavy had agreed to the trade and all they had to do was get the last name from our farm system…

yes.
because it is pointless to argue whether or not i believe what was reported. I will strive to have your insightful wisdom the next time that a media outlet reports that my favorite team will sign a certain player.
I am actually having a bracelet made that says “WWRT?” to look at every time espn reports something.

I agree with you on Burnett, but Peavy was reported as pretty much a done deal. A report came out that the Padres were in the stages where they were asking (or about to ask) Peavy to waive his no-trade clause. It didn’t get closer than that, but I was definitely under the impression when I woke up the next morning Peavy would be a Brave.

Where is FW's mysterious trade proposal?
We have plenty of pitching depth to deal from, and a high-ceiling CF.
wasn't that trade proposal concerning a pitcher?
Maybe it was an offer from the Yanks concerning Swisher that FW has since turned down?

I assumed it involved Ludwick or Ankiel, possibly Nady. No chance FW would commit to multiple years for Swish. I still hope we can land Maggs.
i agree
I am just throwing out my thoughts on what the “mystery deal” was.

I remember it being for a pitcher.
"OBP is not a production number, and should not be used as something he achieved."
There goes the World Series. Blow up this team and rebuild. Trade Chipper and Lowe to the Brewers for Matt Laporta, and trade McCann to the Yankees for Philip Hughes and Ian Kennedy.
i knew that
Why bother correcting a sarcastic post? Shouldn’t you be having some alone time with Brandon Jones baseball card?
Nationals
Call the Nats and find out how much Josh Willingham would cost. Or Wily Mo Pena…for goodness sakes, I’d take Wily Mo Pena.
how would he rate
as a LF? I had thought about that last week after they signed Dunn, but didnt know enough about NJ to say one way or another.

DOB just posted his "apology" (if you could call it that)
Apparently “Terry” (I am going to assume Terrence Moore) was the one that received the tip. I don’t really care that we didn’t get Griffey, but T-Moore SHOULD NOT have a job.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."
- Bobby Cox (talking about Boyer)
Terry McGuirk
Chairman of the Atlanta Braves, probably.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
naw
Check out the quote below.
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."
- Bobby Cox (talking about Boyer)
DOB (5 minutes ago): “But we wrote a story that said Griffey told a close friend that he had decided to play for the Braves over the Mariners. We wrote it, because that’s what the close friend told Terry, who goes back a long way with them (Moore is from Cincy, like Griffey).”
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."
- Bobby Cox (talking about Boyer)
T-MOORE SUCKS AT LIFE
"He's getting better, but he's not there yet ..."

Ehhh
Time to save the rest of this amusing outcry for the morning.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
So we potentially lost someone whom I would prefer we didn’t sign? Make a trade for the LF and sign Ohman.
Exactly
If Wren and the front office were open to giving that type of money to Griffey, I think with him now no longer available, Wren must look at resigning Ohman especially since his asking price is a lot lower now.
NO WAY should Wren be interested in signing Garrett Anderson. With Jr now unavailable, the only option left that should even be considered is NY’s Nick Swisher. Now if the Yankees asking price is still too high, than the Braves should just stick with what they got (unfortunately Jones/Blanco).

One source sites Griffey being upset that the AJC broke news on the decision he hasn’t made.
AJC/O’brien: I realize it’s your job to report sports news, but for crying outloud lets stop reporting free agent signings. You’ve been wrong twice in one offseason.
so has espn and foxnews and others.

Obviously we'll never get to see now
but this signing would’ve been a major mistake on your guys’ part. He’s done in the field. DONE. Try to take some solace in the fact that you dodged a self-inflicted Plaxico Burress shot to the leg.
Good luck this year.
Over on D-Fab's Blog
Seems that everyone is killing on him. Does anyone have a f’ing life. Everyone’s blaming him for Griffey leaving. Its not his fault he got credible info that said Griffey was going to choose ATL. Seriously people need a damn life. I don’t see many other beat writers running a blog like he does, or have players guest blog etc. I guess im glad we have some intelligent people on this blog.
