Thoughts On Griffey Rumors
I gotta say I really like the idea of signing Ken Griffey Jr. To me this move would unite the two best hitters in the steroid era that have never been linked as users. Of course the other is #10 himself, Chipper Jones. I think Griffey has one decent season left and wouldn't it make a great story should these two carry a young team like this to the post season? Griffey amazingly had 490 at bats last year playing for two teams. If he can creep that over the 500 mark in a solid platoon with Matt Diaz, I think we'll have a shot at the wild card. In the end, it is our pitching that will make us contend.

While Griffey was my top choice to fill the LF hole he also isn’t a bad way to go. I’m really hope that we get him over Anderson. Griffey still has some pop left in his bat and against right handed pitching he should be fine. I think about 400-450 at-bats would be a solid total for him. He should get close to 20 home runs.
If he’ll take the 1.5 mil that’s been reported by Bowman, it seems like a no-brainer to me. I hope this happens, sign Glavine, and get on with the season.
Need a right hander!
Griffey vs left and pitchers sucked last year. What do you do then? Move Diaz to the 3rd hole and bat chipper 4th? Griffey is good but he’s also a liablitliy. He also is injury prone and we dont need a another headache. Get Anderson whi is a sure bet instead of Ken.

anderson may be a sure bet (althougth thats definately arguable), but he has almost no power and does not get on base that frequently (highest OBP was .352 in a year he hit .321)… Griffey on the other hand has 2 season in which he had an OBP lower than Anderson’s highest year. Griffey has much more power as well, Anderson has 5 years in his career where he had a SLG over 500 Griifey has 7 in which he didnt have over 500 SLG… also Griffey crushes righties, even at this stage in his career.
I understand many of these stats are old and dont take into effect decline, but whats important is that Griffey still gets on base at a much better rate thn ANderson, as well as having at worst equal power (and thats being conservative with you’re estimation of Griffey’s power)… Griffey hit 3 more HR with about 25 less PAs last year
The only place Anderson is better than Griffey is defensively… and personally i think there is a glitch in the system because there’s no way Anderson should have 18 UZR/150… if u are generous I’ll say he is a 0 UZR maybe as high as plus 5. considering Griffey will be around a -15 or somehting it is a significant difference, but not enough to offset the difference on Offense (although i didnt run the nbrs, hopefully they will back me up)…
And while it may be stupid, its true that people will come to see Griffey put on the uniform, whereas no one would give a shit about Anderson.
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

I would love to have him. He could avoid getting overplayed by being in a platoon with Diaz. One hits rightys well and the other hits leftys well. Seems like a logical fit. Plus to add a guy with that much experience and a reputation for a being a good locker room guy I think it’s a can’t miss.
Let’s get this done Frank and start looking forward to spring training!!!
but he doesnt have a reputation as a good locker room guy… we already established that… unless u have evidence to the contrary that has yet to be presented (not being a dick im seriously asking)

No I don’t have any evidence of that and I didn’t see all the posts to the contrary until too late. I guess I based that on his willingness to associate with fans and things such as that. But I guess that doesn’t always translate to the locker room. And I could be off base on the fans too, it was just the impression that I got.
I love it!
a Griffey/ Diaz platoon would be perfect. We can watch Jr’s health, give him the rest he needs, and you know he still has pop in that bat. Plus he would probably put some extra butts in seats at Turner Field.

Platoon.
I’m still skeptical about the numbers Diaz is going to put up, but Junior for $1.5 million is not that bad and certainly a better investment than Anderson.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.
I just see it as putting players in the best place possible to succeed. Diaz played great in a platoon role and struggled when offered the everyday job last year. REturning to a platoon would give him the chance to get back to his ’07 form. Griffey has proven to injury plagued to be counted on everyday and could benifit from time off when Diaz is in the lieup. Not to mention that he still has the ability to rake from the other side of the plate as Matty D.
This would put both of these guys in a position to put up good numbers and get plenty of rest in between. Plus I just don’t see the downside of bringing in Griffey if he is willing to take a low base salary and also willing to play in a platoon role.
I understand what you’re saying, but I’m not 100% sold on the Diaz that we saw prior to last season. I hope to god he can continue to hit at that torrid pace, but I’m not going to blindly believe that he will because in 2006 he put up a .800 OPS against LH and in 2007 the .964 OPS he had against them had a .372 BABIP to go along with it. I know he’s a line drive machine, but that number just scares screams at me.
I just think some people around here could be in for disappointment.
I guess I should be one to talk.
