Griffey Main Target!!!

According to Jerry Crasnick at ESPN the Braves are targeting FA Ken Griffey Jr. Personally I like this move for pr but does Griffey still have it. Honeslty the Braves have a slim choice of bats left. I doubt that we have enough for Griffey after we sign Glavine and arb for Frenchy. So the question is would this be a good signing for the Braves or a bad one. GO Braves!!!! GO Braves!!!!!! Go braves

I think Good

Griffey hit 30 home runs in 07 and 18 last year with a bum knee thathad to be repaired. Hopefully we get the real 07 Griff

Ugh. Not only is he old, injury prone, and well past his prime, but he’s as crusty with the fans as anyone in the game. And he has a tendency to rub off on his teammates, especially the young ones. I’d hate to see all the nice, young players on the team turn into jackasses by following his lead.

There’s no way he should do anything but DH these days. Can you imagine him and Chipper on the same team. We’ll need to hire more trainers.

He is a huge fan favorite..

would at least draw a crowd and the same report said he has no problem rotating with diaz. He is old and well past his prime but maybe he could put some power in the lineup. I would take him over Garret Anderson.

by dabraves on Feb 14, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

yeah, at least he’s been in the National League for the past 8 years (barring those last 40 games with the Sox, of course), and has seen a lot of the pitchers here. Or maybe that would be an advantage for Anderson…?

In today’s day and age, with players moving around so much and interleague play, the league a guy has played in is completely irrelevant.

um

Ken is my scond favorite player of all-time , behind Chipper, but he’s injury prone. Last thing we need is Griffey and Diaz getting hurt at the same time. As we all know, Griffey’s injury useually takes months to recover. I like Griffey but I dont like this move at all. I rather sign Garret Anderson who is more relaible. And I think Wren is jumping off course here getting another left hand batter when his goal is winter was to get a righty. If you are going to get a lefty. get Anderson!

Wasn’t advocating Griffey, just saying that the league a guy plays in is irrelevant anymore. But really, Griffey v Anderson has never been and never will be a contest, even an injured Griffey is better.

Could be for Anderson. Its not like Griffey ever tore up the National League..But I would think Jr. would bring more power to the lineup. Or he could just stay hurt all year so I guess I will just contradict myself. Sh**

by dabraves on Feb 14, 2009 4:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

What is it with this team and Franchise with always going back and getting older players and trying to make a run. I mean I wouldn’t mind Jr. in left and he still is a a cleanup hitter with out a doubt when his knee is healthly, however is this really the best move of the OF’s left ??? I guess so hey if we are out of it in (hopefully not w/ our pitching) we can still trade him like the reds did last year and get something for him.. Who knows ?? I guess the Swisher deal is dead and really for what the Yank want they can keep him.
Go Braves.

Griffey in the National League would be an absolute disaster. He’s simply NOT capable of playing the field any longer. His fielding and declining bat have made him a replacement level player for the last three years. He’s not someone that the Braves should consider employing.

Hey... didn't I call this one?

I bet the guy’s got 20 homers and a good OBP left in him, and he can sit against tougher lefties while Diaz gets some ABs. I LOVE the idea of having either of those guys on the bench later in games for pinch hitting, too.

by FineHamAbounds on Feb 14, 2009 5:18 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Griffey can still mash right-handed pitching, so if the Braves can keep him on the field, he can be an asset so long as Cox employs him in a straight platoon with Matt Diaz. By the way, Frank Wren confirmed the Braves’ interest to the AJC’s David O’Brien:

“Frank Wren just acknowledged to me that the Braves are interested in Griffey.”

O’Brien provides some numbers, too. Since 2006, Griffey has an OBP over .370 against northpaws, and has slugged over .500.

I think he will ultimately choose Seattle over us for nostalgia sake, but I would like to see us get him.

by Mike Kerns on Feb 14, 2009 5:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Of course we had his father too Sr; Boy that worked out well for us.

Griffey Sr.

87’ – 14 hr 64 RBI (122 games played)
88 – 2hr 19 RBI (Only 69 games played)

by Holty_Panthers_Fan on Feb 14, 2009 5:47 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn’t mind seeing that beautiful swing in a Braves uni. We don’t have many options left, the article said that after Griffey, we’d look to G. Anderson, and fuck that. At least Griffey brings the swing that’ll drop skirts and boost PR, Anderson would just bring a musty old smell.

by Mark Lempke on Feb 14, 2009 5:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If getting Griffey keeps us away from Garrett Anderson, I suppose I could get on board

by eaheckman10 on Feb 15, 2009 1:55 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry we also had Sr. in 1980

Stats:
3HR – 12 RBI (Played 80 games)

Maybe his dad has some pull and he will probably end up with the Braves, they better not give him more than Aberu got b/c we could have had him at 5million ??? Stupid to over pay how about :

1 year – 3.5 or 4 million take it or leave it.

I know we could get Edmonds of Anderson for that easily.

Griffey, Glavine, Chipper, Perez in the bullpen…it really IS the team of the 90s.
