"If the Braves don't sign Griffey, they could turn to veteran Garret Anderson as a fallback. But sources said that Griffey is Atlanta's prime target, and the Braves are "in the mix'' for his services.

The interest is apparently mutual. Griffey lives in Orlando, Fla., where Atlanta's spring training site is located, and has a good relationship with Braves manager Bobby Cox.

Griffey would also be willing to split time with Matt Diaz in left field for the Braves, sources said."

I'll add...

That I’m not a big fan of this. We wanted a RH bat, so we don’t pursue Adam Dunn for a long time. Now we’re stuck potentially acquiring a LH FA platoon player (granted a legend) whose defense isn’t what it used to be. If he stays healthy, it could be fine. I’m just upset we lost out on Dunn only to settle for what FW said he didn’t want in the first place.

Moot points now...

Time to capitalize on player’s who are on the market right now and Griffey is the best option.

Oh, Bobby.

Good grief, gondeee’s wet dream of Griffey in a Braves uni could come true after all.

-1000 for being a dick.

Weren't there...

…rumors that Griffey Jr. was headed back to Seattle for a final hurrah?

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Yep, and it appeared they were getting close until this news came out. I’m guessing Griffey would rather play for a contender than for some nostalgia in Seattle. And while some may argue we’re not quite a contender (though more of one than the M’s), with our improved pitching it’s not impossible.
