Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Where each team stands right now

I'm sure most of you are as excited as I am that the Braves have the 7th overalll pick in this year's draft. Hopefully, the draft won't be the only thing we're excited about in June. Please post updated draft sites if you know of any others.

Whoever did that first one must not have been paying attention; no way the Braves pass over Tate if he’s available, unless somebody like Green or Strasburg is.

Actually, 2 out of the 3 links I posted have us picking Tate. Click on the headline too. I thought Tate was going to UNC or some other college and wouldn’t go in the draft this year.

If a guy is picked in the top 10 of the draft he’d have to be more or less retarded to pass up that kind of money.

Hello, Aaron Crow! And Matt Harrington.

Seriously. I’m waiting to see Crow not sign again this year. And maybe Josh Fields can make it a hat trick.

I see Josh Fields dropping a few rounds this year. No way a team picks him the first round this year.

yeap

tate is going to UNC on a football scholarship (btw—have you noticed how well my tar heels have finished this recruiting season? wow!) and will play baseball as well.

unless the braves give him above slot money (read top-3 money), he’s a heel.

The last time we signed a 2 sport player from GA, we ended up with Francoeur. I’m not particularly a big fan of 2 sports players.

There are few baseball players that weren’t multi-sport players at some organized level in their lives.

To put it in perspective, former Braves reliever Chad Paronto lettered in soccer and basketball as well as baseball in high school. Most Braves fans recognize him as the unreliable tub of lard out of the bullpen that was supposed to have an excellent sinker, but always got lit up. But at some point in his life, he was the greatest athlete in his high school, and a legitimate three-sport player, that chose the path of baseball.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Soccer? Never would have guessed.

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

My brother and sister attended the same HS as Paronto. It’s a SMALL school…no football team, for example, which is probably why he played soccer.

Here is a link to some recent enrollment data, just to give an idea of the size of the district.

MLB mock drafts before the baseball season even starts is kinda ridiculous, since players can absolutely murder their draft stock in a 3 month period

Mock drafts in general are pretty ridiculous since they’re usually wrong to a shocking degree, but yeah, even more so in January for a June draft.

So is projecting what a player is going to do in the upcoming season, but that doesn’t stop the multitude of people on here from doing it. Just something else to talk about when nothing else is happening I guess.

by BravesFan on Feb 2, 2009 9:03 AM EST up reply actions

Well, I completely agree that projecting a player’s performance is ridiculous. I’d love to see what some folks had Francoeur putting up at this time last year.

The third link doesn’t even have the right draft order.

nor does it have Ben Tootle. I’m hoping to see him improve his draft stock for the Braves to take him. Never too much pitching.
