Jerry Crasnick just reported that Soriano accepted the Braves' offer of $6.5M - $8M.
"jcrasnick: Soriano apparently felt more comfortable with a sure thing from Atlanta -- one year and $6.5 to $8 million -- than going out on the market

Confirmed by MLBTR:
Rafael Soriano accepted the Braves’ offer of arbitration, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Braves, who recently signed Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito, will have lots of relatively expensive relievers under contract. Imagine if Mike Gonzalez accepts, too.
As ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick points out, the Braves need Soriano’s permission to trade him before June 15th. Apparently Soriano prefers the security of a one-year deal to the uncertainty of a market that would have been dulled by his Type A status.

We trade him. It was probably the plan from the begining – a guaranteed contract that he thinks will be better than what the open market has to offer.

So why did we not offer to LaRoche too?
at least we’d have needed his position.
I hope Wren doesn’t leave the meetings without at least one trade worked out.
Laroche would have been harder to trade if he accepted
Wouldn’t he? Since the Braves couldn’t handle either of their salaries. Plenty of interest in Soriano I would imagine.
The Braves are trying to sign a 1B anyway...
for a one year deal, I thought offering LaRoche arb made a ton of sense.
Why would he accept a lower valued 1 year deal
than the money he’d get in arbitration? Your understanding of the process is correct, but Laroche acting in his best interest would without a doubt accept arbitration and receive fair value for his services.
Not everyone who accepts arbitration..
actually end up before the arbitrator. In fact, a very small percentage of them do. Most end up agreeing to a deal, be it one year or for multiple before ever getting that far in the process.
If you're the Braves, why take that chance?
If you’re Adam you have a relative idea of what you’re worth and if the offer isn’t up to par, you take it to arb and get the fair amount.
The Braves avoid this by not offering him arbitration. If he wants to play here, offer him the hometown discount price and if he does not accept, you’re not on the hook for a higher salary.
Why would we want to trade Soriano when Bobby’s the manager and we have an older reliever in Wagner. Without Soriano in there Bobby will tear Wagner and Saito down by Aug. and what then? I know he’s expensive and so is our new 39 year old closer. Everyone’s agreed that they dump Lowe and don’t be surprised if we lose someone with him. I really don’t see them trading Javy unless for something very good in return that we couldn’t afford unless we got rid of lowe as well. Pujols? Ethier? Just saying if we lose Lowe’s contract we’ll be able to afford the BP and keep Laroche. We go into spring camp with Hayward and Schafer there. Chipper will spend 2 hours a day in front of the most expensive and best batting machine 4 days a week all off-season and he’ll be 2008 Chipper in spring. McCann comes back with the eyes of an eagle. Oh and get rid of TP just cause everything wrong is his fault.
Senator, we have another old saying,"Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining." Fletcher
Because smart teams don’t commit up to $23M on 3 relief pitchers. Because Wren said that is what we would do. Because the BP is just fine without him. Because he costs $8M (the most expensive of the 3) and is just as big of an injury risk.
