Opening Day Lineup Contest
Can you believe it? Only 105 more days until opening day! It does seems like that's quite some time, but with so many questions left on the Braves -- 1B, LF, RF, which of our 6 starting pitchers get traded, bench, etc. -- there's no doubt there will be plenty of stories to develop over the next 3 and a half months.
As of right now, this contest is just for bragging rights and a big air-five, but maybe someone will be able to round up a prize package or something. I think it would be great to see everyone's predictions for the upcoming season...and heck, this is almost like rosterbating, so I'm sure we'll have a ton of participants. :)
All entries are due by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) December 31st, 2009
1. Name the Braves batting order on Opening Day. 1 point for each correct name in the correct batting slot in the order. (9 points possible)
2. Name the Braves positional starters for the game. 1 point for each correct name in the correct position during the 1st pitch of the game. (9 points possible)
18 points are possible.
In case of a tie:
Tiebreaker #1: Who strikes out first for the Braves?
Tiebreaker #2: Who hits the first double for the Braves?
Tiebreaker #3: Who scores the first run of the game/season for the Braves?
Here is an example of what it should look like (or close to it):
McLouth - CF
Prado - 2B
Chipper - 3B
FUGA - LF
And so on....
And then for the tiebreaker questions: 1. Greg Norton 2. Diory Hernandez 3. Albert Pujols
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY PREDICTING!

No biggie
Since it’s basically the same lineup I had. I was just worried about someone saying Nick Swisher or someone similar cause he can play LF, RF and 1B

Remember to put positions
I guess you don’t have to list Chipper’s, BMac’s or the obvious players, but if you have guys like Nady, Swisher, Rivera, Diaz, etc. (who could play multiple positions), be sure to include positions. Those are half of your points!
In Frank Wren I trust.
Cool Idea
1. Nate McLouth Centerfield
2. Martin Prado Second Base
3. Chipper Jones Third Base
4. Brian McCann Catcher
5. Yunel Escobar Shortstop

I guess I am out of it eh? I underestimated FW. Instead of Rochey, I am guessing he will use Miguel at first, and Melky in LF until Heyward takes over in June. Freeman is sure as gone now..and Frank can deplete a few of the excess arms in the system, without harm.I wonder which one(s) Dombrowski is gonna ask for with Freddy?

If it is a no-hitter and involves the Pirates...
…it is still weak if it doesn’t involve acid.
I don’t know man. It’s a total guess. I’ve come to the conclusion that Nady will be a Brave and I was looking for someone else to plug in. I don’t think Swisher is coming to the Braves cause I don’t think the Yankees will trade him so I plugged in Glaus. It’s all a crapshoot at this point in the year.

just curious..
why nady in the 4 hole and not glaus?
"Im a fullonrapist, I do men, women, autistic kids, children, the elderly." -Charlie Kelly
Because Glaus is a guess. I think we’re getting points off of the actual order and I’m fairly sure that Nady will be on the team, and probably hitting 4th, so I’m going for points. This isn’t necessarily the lineup I want, but it’s my guess.

mmmm, that is why I had him 8th. Bobby usually bats the injured guys at the bottom of the lineup until they can ease back into the swing of things.
I don’t think health will be an issue. Where would you bat him?

Probably 6th, maybe 7th. But 8th is kind of an insult for an established vet like that.

Just so everyone knows
I’ll only be scoring the first lineup you posted.
When I posted this (about 12 hours before the whole Javy to the Yankees happened), I thought it would be a great time since we had so much undecided. Now, our roster appears to be close to finished. The contest would be pointless if everyone could change their lineup; with one or two exceptions, they’d all be the same.
For the guys who posted after everything happened, you’re lucky. However, it only looks like 3 or 4 of you posted your lineups after the trade happened. I guess good things happen to those who wait.
