Ugh.
Thats one less suitor for Lowe meaning we have no leverage against the Angels.
I wonder what prospects are involved on both sides. Im pretty sure the Phils are flipping a pitcher from the M’s to the Jays
Leverage
Our leverage is that we have the best remaining pitcher available.
Yup.

Wow.
If this pans out (I imagine it is contingent upon Halladay agreeing to an extension)—-Heyman has already said he pulled the trigger too quickly on reporting it, but it must be close, Halladay is in Philly with his agent—-it looks like the Angels are the obvious top destination. The Mets could also be a possibility, but I don’t know about that.
And Lackey has a deal with the Red Sox
per MLB Trade Rumors
We should see some action on the Lowe front now. And I mean NOW.
This is actually good news!
I would much rather Philly have to pay Halladay $20M per season than Lee $8M. IMO, Halladay isn’t THAT much better than Lee. This deal will handcuff Philly. Sure, they have their legit #1, but at $20M per, some things just aren’t worth it – especially a guy who plays every 5 games.
I’d much rather have our rotation without Halladay than Philly’s rotation with him.
Good news indeed.

I agree
I was a bit alarmed when I thought their rotation was going to be Halladay/Lee/Hamels/Who/Cares. Replacing Lee with Halladay means nothing. Way to go Phillies!

doesnt completely mean nothing
halladay will be long term…lee probably would have left after this season
"If I have asthma, they won't let me scuba. And if I can’t scuba, then what’s this all been about?? What am I working toward??"
Halladay is 33 years old…long term would probably be a good thing for Atlanta too.
This deal is hand-cuffing philly quite a bit. They get an aging pitcher, while losing two young good pitchers (Lee and Happ) plus losing their top prospect, plus having to pay an extra $12M per year (with the same budget, reports say).
I love this deal for Atlanta.
Not to mention, this now opens the door for Lowe to be traded at premium cost.

I think Happ is overrated
BUT, he’s a cheap botr starter at worst. Why would the Phillies trade Lee and Happ for Halladay? Awesome trade, Omar Minaya Junior Ruben Amaro!

They just traded Halladay and a bunch of prospects

this is still ongoing...
and Jayson Stark has the Phillies getting a lot more prospects than originally rumored, and Toronto a little less.
depends on what longterm means
it looks like itll be another 3-4 years…you have to imagine he’ll be good for at least 2-3 more years.
with that said, still not a great deal. I at least understand Philly’s logic, even if it is a dumb move.

This is fine with me
Halladay > Hudson
Hamels < Vazquez
Blanton < Hanson
Meyers < Jurrjens
Happ = Kawakami
They just handcuffed their team for 4 years.
In Frank Wren I trust.
I personally think Happ is a pinch bit better than Kawakami

that might be
but the difference between our #2 – #4 starters is a joke.
plus, Happ overachieved like no other in 2009. I really doubt he can continue to do that.

I would go the opposite way.
Overheard in press box, from local reporter: 'If this Moore kid was any good, they'd be up 31-0 right now.'

I think Meyers is a free agent and won’t be back.

Didn’t the Rangers sign him?

dont think so
but the phillies did say they wouldnt resign him.
Also have to remember that Moyer ended the season injured…I cant remember what kind of injury it was but it would always turn into a liability.
"If I have asthma, they won't let me scuba. And if I can’t scuba, then what’s this all been about?? What am I working toward??"
He was just back in the hospital (Moyer)
due to complications from the surgery he had at the end of the season. It is an open question whether he will be any use again. (That is, it is questionable whether he will pitch again, it is also questionable whether he will not suck if he does.)
The Phillies have no pitching at all compared to us, just Halladay, Hamels is just overrated as hell, i dont like blanton, happ one year wonder and moyer too old and doesn’t have the stuff

If this goes through as reported, the Phils will have gutted their farm system for a slight upgrade. I love it.
How could any Braves’ fan disapprove of this deal? Happ, Lee, Blanton, Drabek, top prospects…it is amazing that Philly is willing to sell their sould to the devil like this.

i know dude, im stoked.
People on The Good Phight are pissed too. hah.
btw, on a completely unrelated note, do you play Call of Duty MW2? I played against a Junstincredibul a day ago.
No I don’t. I don’t own that game yet. Hell, I have a PS2, so I only play CoD on the PC, and usually it is COD 1 or 2 that I play.
I am a little miffed that someone else has thought of my clever way of mispelling this nickname though…

We don't know who is going.
The nice thing about this is that it lets us move Lowe quickly. The problem is that the Sox just signed Cameron, so it doesn’t help us in the OF—-the remaining OF left aren’t particularly helpful.
I guess I have to qualify this: If the early reports are true, this is great for the Braves.
As it is right now, the Phillies lose Drabek and Lee, but not Blanton and Happ…that isn’t quite as good, but the Phils are still giving up some really good prospects.
