I'd take him at an affordable price. What about you?

Lolno
He’s barely a major league hitter outside of Coors, let alone an adequate starting 1B.

In Frank Wren I trust.

Does this not apply to pretty much any player available...
depending on “affordable”. Hell, I’d be for signing Geoff Jenkins “at an affordable price”, aka non guaranteed minor league deal, same for Atkins and countless others.

For a non-guaranteed contract, I’d give him a shot. Similarly to what the Rangers did with Jones last year – if he makes the squad, great. If he produces or proves he can hit outside of Coors, even better!
In a longer term way of thinking, if he can bounce back, he could be a good candidate to replace Chipper when he leaves.
Also, in a small sample size at the Ted, he has great numbers.

But he'll get a better offer elsewhere.
With his name and Coors inflated numbers, somebody will sign him to play every day. If we could get him for a cheap amount to take a flier that’s fine, but I doubt we will. He was non-tendered because his arbitration salary would have been $8 million or so. He’ll get $3-4 million from somebody and an every day gig. I hope that team isn’t us.
I really think you are stretching it too far with the...
Chipper replacement talk. Yeah, sure if, but that is one gigantic IF.

Hence the “If / then” in my post…also, I said he could be a candidate, meaning that the job would not be automatically his.
But, if he proves he can hit, why the hell not?

You're being kind of generous
If Ted Williams cryogenically frozen body proves it can hit, why the hell not?

yeah, if he can sure...
but as Viva implies, that’s one gigantic if. We could say the same thing about Andy Marte too. If we signed him, and he proves he can hit, why the hell not?
