Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll

Every other Friday this off-season Talking Chop presents the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. This poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, general playing ability on the field, and of course during the off-season, how our off-season is going. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

This one’s gonna get ugly…

"My team of nine guys who hit like Albert Pujols and never ever bunt just beat your team with one Shane Victorino 472 to 3."

I’d put my confidence around an 8 right now. I don’t know why this would get ugly at all. Anyone who thinks that we have had a bad offseason so far isn’t paying attention. Wren has made all the right moves so far.

You are giving way too much credit to the intelligence of some people around here.

:)

Personally, I have been at an “8” for about the past year, so I agree with you. I just have seen far too many times little events affect the emotions of people who will go from voting a 7 or 8 when the club wins 5 in a row, to a 2 or 3 because the club lost a couple of games.

Trading Soriano is going to have its effects.

I vote low...

just cause the rest of you are too high. 5-7 should be the range, not 7-8+

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 11, 2009 9:15 AM EST up reply actions

I’m sorry that my confidence in the organization is not where you think it should be.

I am just going to vote 10 next week to offset your 5.

also, wtf kind of polling is that? You think the poll results are too low, so you are going to vote to correct the numbers???

Geez, you must work for ACORN.

i guess he doesn’t understand the logic behind a poll..

actually, he does....

the poll is to figure fan confidence. So mine isn’t as high as others. You should be used to that from arguing the artistic merits of Joe Dirt.

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 11, 2009 1:57 PM EST up reply actions

the concept of a poll is to see how a GROUP of people feel about an issue…so in essence, you can’t say “the rest of you are too high” because its how they feel…

and i should be used to your low confidence in the braves because i argued the artistic merits of Joe Dirt??

wow your smart.

You should be accustomed to arguing...

a position that is against popular opinion, similar to my lower confidence in the front office than the consensus view.

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 11, 2009 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

wrong again…your actually arguing against popular opinion if your saying everyone’s confidence too high.

The issue is that you’re voting lower than your stated confidence in an attempt to skew the overall numbers down to where you think they should be, rather than voting what you think and allowing the poll to present an accurate picture of the fan confidence for the site.

by Lennox on Dec 11, 2009 4:32 PM EST up reply actions

not really...

i vote at a level i feel i can agree with.

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 11, 2009 4:49 PM EST up reply actions

you said you vote lower, cause you feel everyone else is too high…thats not the level you agree with then.

or...

i feel somewhere around 5-7, most people seem to vote high, so I feel more comfortable going on the lower end of the spectrum than I would if most voted 3s.

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

That conceded his point....

..if you let the votes of others affect your vote, you skew the poll. It’s that simple. Vote what you feel. Ignore others. Otherwise, you are attempting to give your vote more strength than it should. That is manipulating the poll, period.

by cavebird on Dec 11, 2009 11:14 PM EST up reply actions

I "feel" between 5-7...

and could find something in that range reasonable. How is it manipulation by voting a mark I “feel” accurate.

by Mr. Sanchez on Dec 12, 2009 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

Because you claimed the ratings of others were the ONLY reason you voted low.

You suggested that your ratings were based only on the opinions of others.

Finally there have been some moves. I like what Wren has done so far, so my confidence has increased to a 7. I hope he moves quickly to fill the offensive needs and doesn’t wait around to sign the equivalent of Anderson for cheap like last year.

I’m hanging in at 8. Frank didn’t do much at the meetings, but no one else did much, either, and he did a pretty good job dealing with the Soriano problem.

Terry P seems to be the only guy holding us back. Too bad the Braves don't see this.

Props to Terry and everything, but in this capacity, I don’t think it’s working.

I'm hoping he leaves with Bobby :)

Until then, please God give me patience!

I was hoping for a big bat coming out of the winter meetings. I haven’t seen the Braves’ name in the pot for Holliday or Bay yet, or frankly, any other big bat. The Soriano situation set the club back. This worries me. My 8 dropped to a 7. I have confidence Wren will get it all together in the end though.

by Gage23 on Dec 11, 2009 2:46 PM EST reply actions

5

We could go either way. So far we’ve made what looks to be, at best, a sideways step in our bullpen (getting much older in the process), and added a middle reliever who is questionable to make the team.

How Wren deals with Lowe and addresses the offense is going to decide which way my confidence goes, and the talk of us being interested in Nady doesn’t inspire much confidence that we’re looking at impact bats.

by Lennox on Dec 11, 2009 4:38 PM EST reply actions

I don't think that 8 should be the most common vote.

I said 7.

I voted 8

It is what I voted last time. After the winter meetings, we are pretty much where we started. The key is how we deal with Lowe and what we do with the money I save. If we sign a good 1B and Cameron, I am maxing it. If we sign Byrd and Nady, I am down to 2 or so.
