I guess you can now add Mark Bradley's name to the list of my least favorite baseball writers.

barf. Look, he has a good point, but its the reverse of the Joba situation. He was so good as a reliever but then became just an average starter. I feel as though Hanson would go from All-Star starter to just awesome closer.

I think Bradley was just under orders to increase his page views. Next he is going to suggest trading Chipper and re-signing Norton.

Oh, he’s just doing the same thing on his blog that everyone does here, but he’s getting paid for it. He’s really not too bad; I find myself agreeing with him more than disagreeing, although in this case, I couldn’t disagree more. I like the way he engages with the readers.

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." A. Bartlett Giamatti

Closers

Are worth a fraction of what even a decent starter is worth and Tommy is better than a decent starter. If you go by Fangraphs, in 127 innings Tommy Hanson was worth slightly less than Jonathon Broxton who was the best value closer for all of last year. Hanson will get better and closers rarely provide more value than Broxton did. It would be intensely stupid to make him a closer.

That’s the exact stat I just looked up. An absurd suggestion from Bradley. We need Tommy pitching as many innings as possible.

In fact, here's an analogy I just thought up.

Albert Pujols is one heck of a good hitter. In fact he’s so good I bet he’d be like the best pinch hitter ever. Why waste his bat 4 times a game when he could be saved up for the most important at bat of every game? I mean, then you can be sure you are using him at the highest impact moment of the game. I call for Pujols to become the best darned pinch-hitter in the game.

And that’s how stupid this argument is.

With Hudson back, should Hanson become a closer?

No Bradley he should not!
