Best part about the '09 WS...

It's over.

It was painful, but not too painful. I mean, at least our NL East rivals didn't win back-to-back years, and the Series wasn't that great (none of the games were very close, or dramatic).

Unfortunately, I think the more painful part will come later, when we will have to hear about the Yankees, and how Joe Girardi is a saint for leading a $220 million team to a championship (how did he do that?!?!), and how great Mariano Rivera is, yada, yada, yada.

Yes.

The Yankees haven’t won the damn thing in almost a decade. I can swallow that more than I could the Phillies going back-to-back. Phuck ’em.

Oh, Bobby.

I have to say I rather enjoyed watching the shots of the Phillies’ dugout after the final out. I’m glad they didn’t become one of the very few NL teams to win back-to-back championships.

Love this quote

Unfortunately, I think the more painful part will come later, when we will have to hear about the Yankees, and how Joe Girardi is a saint for leading a $220 million team to a championship (how did he do that?!?!),

I mean, got, its so hard to win when you have a $50-$60 million dollar advantage over the next team, and about $100 million dollar advantage over the team you beat in the WS. I mean, such adversity when all of your mistakes are covered up with gobs and gobs of money. I mean, Girardi and Cashman are just brilliant, aren’t they?

I fucking hate the Yankees.

I live in Connecticut

with lots of Yankees fans. If I hear a single one of them talk about how brilliant Cashman is for building this championship team, I may just throw up all over them. Seriously, with a $220 million dollar payroll, I could build a championship calibur team too. Amazing!

by Andy Braves Fan on Nov 5, 2009 12:06 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think I would have rather had the Phillies win it than the Yanks. At least we beat the Phillies this year…and would have a chance to shut them up next year…now, sadly, I will have to endure the “Greatness” that is the Yankee magic for the next 10 years because of this one series.

except that another world series win would have vasty increased the Phils’ revenue stream, which can only be bad for the Braves… Either way this WS was a shit sandwich…

How can the Redskins have the highest payroll in Football and still suck?

At least Matsui was the MVP and not the legendary Jeter, A-Rod, Rivera or any of those assholes. I really hope Jeter gets caught molesting a kid or something.

Here are Pujols's stats: 1.000/1.000/4.000/5.000. That's right. He is batting a thousand, with a thousand OBP (naturally), and every hit has been a home run, and thus his OPS is a perfect 5.000.

I just thought it was funny

That it’s the guys not as likely to be on the team next year who were the biggest contributors.

Damon and Matsui were the biggest hitting contributors, and Andy Pettitte won his two starts, were as the quarter-billion-dollar men each imploded at least once. Teix was ineffective, as was Swisher, for the most part.

Why the hate for Mo Riv? Because he is really good?

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

Because someone in the pre-game show kept calling him the best pitcher in the game. Let’s see him get through nine innings with one pitch.

two players i will never hate Mariano Rivera and Jeter (Jeter has my respect, even if i think he is overrated..bc of the way he plays and how consistent he is)

and Rivera is the best closer of all time… every other current Yankee can be hated.. but in my opinion those two have reserved the right to be treated with respect (or at least as much respect as a baseball plaeyr should garner)…..

and a perfect dismount of my high horse

bc they are the worst organization in baseball

the yankees at least pretend to care about their fans and continually put out a good baseball team (for the most part).. for all the people that whine about how much money they spend (im one of them) they have it and theres no rule against spending so why not spend it.. they still cut a profit each year bc of their market…

what the Marlins do is a travesty… they refuse to put out a good product… except when they feel they need to to generate revenue… their owners are happy taking the checks from revenue spending and luxury taxes… and going to the bank….they make no effort to advertise and let people know they have a good team… and even if the did, people woulndt go bc their ownership has twice demolished a WS winning team (with the second time haveing no reason at all, the economics werent that bad in 03…in 97 they were fucked… so i kinda understand)…

essentially their owner is a dousche and doesnt even pretend to care about the sport… at least with the steinbrenners you know they wanna win and will try to.. they are loyal to their fanbase and thats all you can ask from an owner.

I wouldn't call them the worst organization

But I fully agree that they have the worst owner. Jeffrey Loria is a money-grubbing disgrace.

Before Hanley Ramirez, the Marlins were rocking payrolls that only once in the 16-year history of the Marlins, crept over $60mil, and that was thanks to guys like Mike Lowell and Al Leiter, both of whom were immediately disposed of at earliest convenience. In 2006, the Marlins payroll was $14.9mil, and to put in perspective, Chan Ho Park made more than the entire payroll that year.

Loria puts minimal investment into his team, and despite his efforts to not pay his organization, they perform well, but nobody in Miami gives a crap. At the end of the season, when revenue sharing is divvied up, Loria generally has made more money than in which he has invested.

Otherwise, the organization is splendid. Despite Loria’s efforts to not care about the team, the scouting staff finds more gems in the rough than anyone else. Year after year, the Marlins either find these guys via Rule-5, reclamation projects, or just good prospect scouting. I mean, seriously, Jorge Cantu, Ross Gload, and the ever-dangerous Cody Ross?

I wonder if the Marlins scouting department will ever put out a book or something. I’d love to know the thinking behind so many successful obscure transactions.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

The best part was that the Phillies lost and it is finally over. The worst is that the Yankees won. I guess its good that the Yankees won because they would have a 300 million dollar team next year by adding Bay and Holliday. Maybe now they will let someone else sign a good free agent.

I guess I just don't get it

A while back, I used to say that I hated the Yankees, but then I realized that the reasons I had weren’t necessarily justifiable, and often things that I’d reconsider when I do the “what if I were in their shoes” scenario.

I’ve said my reasons so many times throughout the playoffs, so I don’t see any point in stating them again, but I don’t hate the Yankees at all. Perhaps I don’t run into as many of their supposed jerkoff fans as some of you do; in fact, the Yankee fans that I’ve encountered on the road, or like during Interleague this year, they’ve all been decent human beings. I’ve certainly run into far worse Boston and Cubs fans out there.

I’m not a Jeter fan, but it’s hard not to respect the way the guy goes out and does his business on the field. He might be a tool, but he’s a tool with millions of dollars, five WS rings, and that chick from Friday Night Lights.

Rivera, I can say I am a fan of; I’ve always had a fondness for closers. And I can say that there’s NOBODY at the end of a ballgame that just feels as money, as guaranteed, as automatic as Mariano Rivera does. Watching the playoffs, when he came in the 8th, 9th, or 10th innings, I couldn’t help but have this calm feeling at knowing that the inevitable was on its way. It’s like trying to watch a DVR of the game, when you already know the end result.

The rest of the employees, well, none of them have given me any reason to really “hate” them, like I “hate” Shane Victorino, Ryan Howard, or Alfonso Soriano–and by “hate,” I mean guys that play so awesome against us and kill us, that I hate to see them. Considering we see the Yankees once every 2-3 years, it’s hard to really harbor any ill-will towards them otherwise.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

At least Jeter or A-Rod didn’t win the MVP. That would have been obnoxious. Actually, Matsui was the perfect guy to win it since he’s on his way out in NY.

I happened to love the WS, but thats just me. By the way, I’m going to the parade tomorrow (No, i’m not ditching the Braves) But that mo view is horrible. He is arguably the greatest closer of all time, plus he’s a class act, plus he’s soft spoken and not a douche like Hammels or Rollins. Don’t get that

(Yunel is still the Queen of Hearts)

by GoBravesNY on Nov 5, 2009 8:20 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Ha

That wasn’t a burn on Mo. I like Mariano Rivera, and I think he is an outstanding closer. It really doesn’t get better than him. I was just bringing up the point that I already know how great Mo is, but EVERY article that I have read since the Yanks won is just a repeat of “the Yankees sure do feel comfortable with Rivera on the mound” and “he can do those 2-inning saves, he’s done it before” and “Rivera has a great cutter.” Not that these things aren’t true, it’s just obvious. It was more a poke at the sportswriters than Mo, I’m a Mo fan.

You say to-mah-to, I say you're retarded.

by alligatorimpersonator on Nov 7, 2009 11:25 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

haha. Actually its awesome that Mo is a 2 inning closer. 1 inning closer shit now is just annoying and whimpy.

Btw, Braves HAVE to win it all next year. I had so much fun at that parade that I can only imagine what its gonna be like when I come down to ATL for the parade.

Cole Hamels implosion

I hope it carries over to next year. The shot of the dugout after, they showed a close up of Hamels, and all I could think that he was thinking was ‘thank god i don’t have to pitch a game 7’. Also living here in Phillies country, if they won, I couldn’t live it down.

BTW 90% of Phillies fans, at least the ones that I know, are idiots. “They Yankees bought their championship.” They don’t realize they have the 7th highest payroll in all of baseball and that its only going to go up next year. They act like they are Brewers fans.

I still hate the Yankees, and here in NY its like a freakin holiday today. But its not like anyone didnt see this coming, there was no thrill of excitement, even for Yankee fans. Could have predicted this after the Tex signing last year. Erroneous, on all counts.
