Uggla for Vazquez?

ESPN Reports: "The Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins may match up on a trade involving a couple of valuable pieces". This is an insiders issue in which I refuse to pay for. Yes, i know it's less then $3 a month but who pays for baseball news in the era of internet? Not Me. I dont know much about the deal but this is what is out there. Hudson re-signs so let the rumors begin!

In his latest mailbag, MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro suggests that the Florida Marlins and Atlanta Braves could possibly consider connecting on a Dan Uggla-for-Javier Vazquez trade, should the Braves put Vazquez on the market.

This idea actually makes a lot more sense than it may seem on the surface, since the Braves lack an everyday first baseman and the Marlins front office is very familiar with Vazquez from his time in Montreal.

Uggla could play first, or the Braves could slide Chipper Jones to first base and use Uggla at third base. The problem with such a trade, however, might be the money owed to Vazquez. The reason Uggla might be available is the salary he may earn through arbitration this winter, and Vazquez is guaranteed $11.5 million for 2010.

Thats the article.

Isn’t Uggla a FA if he doesn’t agee to arb?

Why can’t people understand that Chipper can’t play 1B?

Here are Pujols's stats: 1.000/1.000/4.000/5.000. That's right. He is batting a thousand, with a thousand OBP (naturally), and every hit has been a home run, and thus his OPS is a perfect 5.000.

Not to mention...

Uggla’s never played a day of 1B or 3B in his ML career

Or that he’s literally 5’6", which is way too short to play first all the time.

No he is under control for two more years. The Fish can not tender him a contract though.

He can still play third

Why trade Vasquez within the division?

by blitzerlover on Nov 4, 2009 5:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

???

Wasn’t Vazquez roughly twice as valuable as Uggla last year?!

"A player who conjugates a verb in the first person singular cannot be part of the squad, he has to conjugate the verb in the first person plural. We. We want to conquer. We are going to conquer. Using the word 'I' when you're in a group makes things complicated." ~ Wanderley Luxemburgo, 1999

and moer than twice as expensive?

im not judgin on the merits or intelligence of this proposed trade, merely stating

Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

If this deal were to happen Florida would have to include a pretty damn good second piece and possibly a prospect in addition, and atlanta would include cash i assume. Vazquez + cash for Uggla, Ross, and a pen arm is pretty fair imo. Rather keep Javy though

Trading Vasquez within the division makes absolutley no sense to me, and chipper isn’t going to move to first base. He was our BEST pitcher this past year so we better got more than dan uggla for him. besides prado is fine at 2nd base. If we trade vasquez i hope to get a big bat that can play the outfield.

by Lemke4790 on Nov 4, 2009 6:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

This isn't gonna happen

I don’t even see why we’re talking about this. Javy would take up about 35% of their payroll.

Exactly.

They’d only move Uggla to try and shed payroll… so why the hell would they be willing to take on Vasquez’s circa 12mil…?

Some of these guys seem totally clueless.

I’d be down for Vazquez for Hanley Ramirez…thoughts??

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

I doubt that trade will happen though.

Vazquez & Esco for Hanley and Uggla

My hands hurt from rosterbating.

Vazquez, Esco, Bethancourt for Hanley and Ross. I’d do it. Even tho we’d probably have the worst infield defense in baseball if we swapped Hanley for Esco.

I Hope This Isn't Going To Go Down

Man I like Vazquez and what he brought to the Braves rotation. The Braves and Bobby Cox especially went on and on about how badly they wanted him for a long period of time.We have him now and he done just what we needed him to do,to trade him now would make Bobby and upper management look like a bunch of liars.I say trade Lowe,I know because of his salary it would be harder but he didn’t live up to expectations plus he ended really bad.The return might not be all that much but to get rid of that contract speaks volumns. We get 15 mil if he gets traded that can be huge for us,but we all know this is can be a cruel business at times and to trade Vazquez would be just that if you ask me.

Uggla for Vazquez?

Never in a million, zillion years.

If Albert played in the AFL, they’d have to rename it the AZ/NM Fall League, based on where his homers landed.

by Yakker on Nov 4, 2009 8:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yea

I agree man Vazquez was legit for us.

by BravesMania on Nov 4, 2009 8:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

If you are going to trade Vazquez you better get something good in return..

I don’t know if Uggla is that guy…He played 3B in the minors….but he is horrible at 2B…would he be any better at 3B…probably not…and as someone mentioned Chipper is probably not suited to play 1B. Do you leave him at 2B and move Prado to 1B or move Prado into a utilty role? I could see the Braves looking at his numbers and thinking he is a feasible #4 hitter for us. You could make the argument that he is as good, if not better then anyone else available to fill that hole…but really? Straight up for Vazquez?

Could we squeeze Uggla AND Ross…or Uggla and Chris Coghlan? Hell…forget Uggla…can we get Coghlan and Ross? I think I might like the combination of those two over a straight up trade for Uggla. If they trade for Uggla does that mean they don’t resign LaRoche? If that is the case…you have to say no. Would it make sense to try and move Prado and get the extra player like Ross in the deal? Isn’t ross arb eligible this year?

As unattractive as that might sound at first…it would look good if you kept LaRoche as well…

by McCann and McWill on Nov 4, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

While I agree that we could easily do better than just Dan Uggla, you’re way overhyping the bad rap he gets on D. In actuality Uggla is only slightly below average at second base, at least close enough to average that it doesn’t detract from his offense. In no way is he an absolute butcher in the field. People remember the all star game imo and base their judgement largely off of that

by McCann's the Man on Nov 4, 2009 10:53 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

No for so many reasons

1. If the Fish trade Uggla it will be for specs with little or no service time, not taking on ~5M more than Uggla would cost in arbi.

2. I’m sure Wren is salivating at the idea of facing JJ, Nolasco, and Javy in a three game series. We would have 50Ks by the time we got out of Miami.

3. Though I think getting Uggla and or Cantu is a good idea… trading our ace to a rival
we are always neck and neck with is a horrible idea.

It’s kind of misclassified- it’s the FLA beat writer saying he thinks that one thing they should try to do to improve. That’s a matter of one guy’s speculation, not a rumor, which is something based off of either an idea tossed around internally by a FO or by conversations between two FOs.

by J-Freak on Nov 5, 2009 4:19 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ah

I see. Makes more sense. However, I don’t see why the Braves would accept that trade. Uggla (who is coming off a down year) probably isn’t enough to acquire Vazquez in any given year anyway, let alone this year.
