Chip Caray and TBS part ways
As much respect as I have for the Caray name, I've kind of seen this coming. Chip just never quite cut it.
[gondeee's note:] I hope this doesn't mean he gets Boog's spot on the Fox broadcasts, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

On a related note, I just purchased DISH Network’s sports package (only $5/Month) and it includes all of the Fox Sports stations. Does this mean that I will be seeing a lot more Braves games out here in Texas???

If it’s like Direct TV then I think that they black out all the mlb games to try to make you pay for the mlb package.

If you want to see more Braves games get MLB.tv
Hands down the best $20 I have ever spent
by blitzerlover on Nov 30, 2009 7:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Nope, that's a killer.
MLB blacks out the games out of market. And DISH Network does not have extra innings, so you can’t even pay for it.

Honestly, I know it’s a tough task for some people, but man if you can scrape up 20 bucks a month NOTHING compares to MLB.TV. I prefer it even to the Extra Innings package, because with MLB.TV you can chose which team’s broadcast to watch, and most of the games come in HD. If you have an HDMI cable, you can then hook it up to your TV and it’s perfect

If you have a really good internet connection...
…that works. If you pay for the best cable internet connection available and it is still slow, it doesn’t work so well.

I agree, I feel like I did the days Clemens/A-Rod were outed for steroids...

oh wait
TBS? it’s not like they are broadcasting the braves… are Peachtree TV and TBS connected?

The title of this is misleading. He didn’t get fired from TBS. He got fired from Turner Sports.
Turner Sports owns Peachtree TV. If only we didn’t lose Boog.

I always thought Boog was 100 times worse than Chip.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it: https://www.createspace.com/3407939

You have no soul. Boog is the Matt Diaz of baseball announcers.

Really? Cause I just thought he was a buffoon who liked talking about how he looked like a cartoon character more than talking about baseball.

gee...
I almost always agree with everything you say on the subject of baseball, but we are waaaaayy far apart on this one. Chip better than Boog? No possible way.

The only people worse than chip, imo:
Joe Morgan, Tim McCarver…and Joe Buck and Chip tie.
Oddly enough, I like both McCarver and Buck outside of the booth (they are great on PTI).

It was long overdue
No offense, but Chip will never be anything like his dad was when it comes to baseball.

See, and I liked Chip a lot say 5 years ago...
something about more time from him, and his increasingly over the top praise turned things south in a hurry over the last 2 years.

I'll never be able to fairly evaluate Chip.
Skip was too good for the dry wit—-I still remember from years and years ago—-in the 80’s, Don Sutton had just come back from doing the Goodwill Games and was talking to Skip about the rules for broadcasting that. He mentioned that the broadcasters were forbidden to use the word “foreign” and had to use “international” instead. Skip quickly responded: “Does that mean the Braves have lost international a row?”
Priceless. Unfair to compare Chip to him and I can’t help it. So I can’t ever fairly evaluate Chip.

hahaha that is classic Skip… +1

I kind of liked Chip’s unbridled enthusiasm, sometimes.

Some quotes from Chip from the AJC:
“I came to Atlanta to do Braves baseball. I didn’t choose the network job; it chose me.”
This may sound corny, but its true, in that he signed on to do Braves games, and shortly after that TBS ditched the Braves.
“The business model that TBS chose didn’t present opportunity to do Braves baseball every day anymore,” Caray said. "Obviously they don’t have the inventory [of baseball games] and I’m better when I work more. That’s really what I wanted to do. At the end of the day, I’m happiest when I’m working and covering a team ever day. …
That actually makes sense, but whether or not he does get better with more work remains to be seen. I can see his side, in that i’m sure its alot easier and more fun to be a biased broadcaster for one team than to be supposedly nonpartisan for a network. I imagine there’s a good chance we’ll see him with Joe next year on FSS. But does this mean Chip is off Peachtree as well?

Given his lineage...
…I would give him a chance to do Braves games every day. If just a sliver of Skip is in his DNA, I’d love it. I am still waiting to see it, however.

Now that I think about it
I hope he can do fox games because Ron Gant is even worse to listen to during a live game imo.
by SmithnCompany on Nov 30, 2009 10:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Dude, so much this. Gant is AWFUL. Can’t say I’ve been real thrilled with any of the guys that do Braves Live, though, Jordan’s not all that great either. Chip, while not a fantastic broadcaster per se, is better than those options. Though personally I’ve been pining for a Don Sutton comeback since the day he left. I’ve been really hoping they’d promote him up from the radio booth and find another radio guy, but you gotta think there’s at least a 50/50 shot it’ll be Joe and Chip next year.

And give Hickman the boot, while we’re going there. The guy says “you know” more than Obama. Seriously, like the beginning of every sentence.
Give his job to Jerome, and let some hottie with a mic hang on the field. (the way it USED to be w/ Katie Temple). It shouldn’t be this hard.
But Hickman is God-awful.

Chip is a good sportscaster, but we were spoiled by having his dad and Pete for such a long time. I think he could use a few rough edges.
On a related note, has anyone heard Josh?

I’ve never heard Josh, but I’ve heard he’s rather good. Not quite Skip, but better than his half-brother.

No longer we will hear anyone proclaim that Fausto Carmona versus Andy Pettitte is some of the best playoff pitching matchups in history.

Chip Caray
I hope that Chip becomes Joe’s partner on Fox Sports South. I couldn’t stand “Boog” and his feeble attempts at humor and his humdrum style.
