Sign Dye and Cameron!!
I know there is a lot of rosterbation going on but here is why i believe we should sign Dye and Cameron!!
1. Sign Dye (if we cant afford LaRoche) to play first base give him spring training and the entire off-season to prepare! Plus he gives us a right handed power bat with 25 plus homerun ability! He also could be the short term fix until Freeman is deemed ready.. with a one year deal with a team option (just in case Freeman is not ready by the 2011 season) !!
2. Sign Cameron (move McLouth to leftfield) that gives us another power right handed bat with 25 plus homerun ability and a still really good centerfielder!! Same as Dye he could be a short term fix with Diaz playing right field so we can give Heyward some more minor league seasoning! Once Heyward is deemed ready Diaz and Cameron can spilt time with each other in left field, and can give McLouth and Heyward rest when they need it! Like Dye we can sign Cameron to a one year deal plus we has always wanted to play for atlanta so we might get him at a discount! Also, he would be a great mentor for Heyward and Schafer!
3. People ask what about Schafer well i believe he needs a least half of the year if not more seasoning in the minors and if he indeed is ready by the all-star break we can trade Cameron!! And to those people who believe we need to trade Schafer i ask why.. He is playing a prime position in centerfield with gold glove and all-star potential that is not easy to find in young talent!
I believe that those two acquistions could give us the power bats that we need and gives us plenty of room to sign some bullpen help! The only question is rather Dye can play a good enough firstbase but we do have the best infielders coach around in Glen Hubbard! Sorry if i said to much... but thanks for letting me speak my mind!!

that’s a load of “!!!”!!!!!!
Someone is excited.
Rosterbation indeed, and out in public. Plus, where are the Braves going to get money to sign both?
total these two should be about 12-13M… but thats pure speculation on my part (im figuring 8M for Cameron and 5 for Dye…. and i think those are safe bets to sign them)
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

So much for the andruw idea
He’s been signed by the white sox. Kinda relevant
hohohhohohoh its the offseason, time to rosterbate in public places

I always loved Andruw, so I hope...
…they intend to play him and he can get his average back on the right side of .250. In that park, who knows, maybe….
1 year, $500k with incentives up to $1M…I am shocked – that cheap and this early???

The CEOs of Burger King, Wendy’s and McDonalds were all concerned with the dollar amount.

Seemed cheap to me, in the relative world of baseball contracts.
I wrote a novel, it's about baseball, you should buy it: https://www.createspace.com/3407939

I wouldn’t have offered anything. At least not if I was running the Braves. I don’t see how he’d be a good fit for Atlanta.
But, the ML minimum is 400K, so you’re only playing a little over that. If he sucks, it’s nothing to get rid of him, even if you have to play the full 500K. If he’s good and reaches all his incentives (and who knows what they are or how easy they are to reach) then you’re still only paying a million, which is nothing for a good player. Seems like a great signing by the White Sox, even if he doesn’t pan out, as long as they’re willing to dump him quick if he sucks, and I think Kenny Williams would.

The number one incentive should be showing up at spring training at a reasonable weight (like minus 25 lbs.) and maintaining that weight throughout the season at mandatory bi-weekly weigh-ins.
How a professionally athlete can let his body go to seed is simply beyond my comprehension.
He was hungry. And $36 million buys alot of Varsity/ In-n-Out Burger

How much of this "sign Dye" talk comes from 13 year old bitterness of us trading his ass to the Royals?

Which is ridiculous cause that really was a good trade for us. People are silly.

That first at bat got everyone attached
And the 7000 or so that have come since he left the ATL have just left us feeling scorned like Ryan Klesko when he looked up in 1997 and saw an extra 20 feet of field in his power alley.

I'm aware, we've discussed that extensively enough
that I think we are both aware of the others’ opinion.

That could just be some random guy
and is a false report.

Would be great....
But is Dye going to sign a reasonable one year deal? I would think that there is going to be an AL team that would give him a 2 yr deal to DH. I wouldn’t sign him to play 1B…you have no idea how bad or good he can be. I would rather play him for 7 innings in the OF and assume that Church and/or Diaz is going in late in the game if he can hit close to his recent norms.
Cameron….He doesn’t fit our need. Yes he is a fairly good CF..still. However, he isn’t really a number 4 or 5 hitter…which is what we really need.
I say again…go get Cuddyer from MN!
I think your appraisal of Dye v. Cameron is wrong
Hitting they are pretty close. Dye has more power and hits for a better average, but Cameron takes more walks. Dye’s career numbers are also a bit increased from hitting in Chicago for many years.
Given the closeness in hitting, fielding makes Cameron easily the better choice. Cameron is still one of the best centerfielders in the game and would improve our defense doubly by letting McLouth move to left where he would be a plus fielder as well. Dye, on the other hand, is one of the worst outfielders in baseball. Any slight advantage we would gain in hitting with Dye would be more than made up for by the fielding deficit.
I don’t think Cuddyer is a much better option either. He had a great season last year at the age of 30, but even then his career numbers are not any better than Dye and Cameron. And his fielding is also pretty brutal—-better than Dye perhaps, but not many others.
I just don’t think that the need for a “true” fourth or fifth hitter is worth the brutal outfield defense that would happen if we had Diaz and one of Cuddyer or Dye in the outfield. McLouth isn’t bad, but doesn’t have the incredible range to make up for two poor corner OFs.
On the other hand, I think Cameron does fit our needs—-a right handed outfielder who plays great defense and has a little pop. He is also significantly better against LHP than against RHP, which works for us because we got plenty of LH bats to go after RHP. (Dye and Cuddyer are both better against LHP than RHP, too, but not as good as Cameron; they each have a career 112 OPS+ vs. LHP, Cameron has a 118.)
All for Dye and Cameron
If they come cheap, can tutor Schafer, Heyward and Freeman, all I all for it
by FloridaBravesFan on Nov 27, 2009 7:36 PM EST reply actions
I would be happy for Cameron even at $8-9 million...
…he has right-handed pop and makes our outfield defense much better. I’d pass on Dye—-he’s never played first and he is a butcher in the outfield at this point in his career. Someone will give him more money than he deserves. I hope it is not the Braves. While I griped at everyone who compared Cameron to Garrett Anderson (and still do), I think there is some point to a comparison of Dye to Garrett Anderson—-Dye is still better, but as his skills degrade with age, he’ll get to that point—-really bad defense, not enough offense to make up for it.
who the hell compared Cameron to GA?
I’d really, really like to know.

We traded Dye when he was 22, and he didn’t put it together until his age 25 season. I don’t think there’s a lot of bitterness there.
