Smoltz
Blurb is about a 1/4 of the way down the page. He states he is open to starting or closing. Braves need bullpen help. Would he swallow his pride and possibly become our closer? Would he come back to be middle relief? Or would he not come back at all?

No way he considers coming back here as long as Wren is the GM.

I doubt he comes back, but...
…I don’t think the bridges are burnt—-he was quite clear that he understood the Braves position (unlike Glavine who was sort of screwed) and that we couldn’t match Boston’s offer. That being said, he would only come back as closer and with the MPH he has lost I don’t know if that is the best idea. I would love it emotionally, but I am not sure.

Part of me would like to see this out of sentimentality but in reality it would be nearly as big a mistake as re-signing Glavine last year. I’d rather see Moylan or Medlen given a shot at closing than take a risk on Smoltz. Best bet would be to trade for Heath Bell or somebody similar or re-sign Gonzalez.

Offer him the same contract as last year with closer geared incentives. I’d love to have him back.

I personally liked the option of going lefty closer/ righty closer according to the batters due up in the ninth. If we resign Gonzo, I wouldn’t mind seeing a Smoltz/ Gonzo platoon at closer, especially since I don’t have all the faith in the world in Gonzo. If not, have him set up.
I just like the prospect of his splitter coming in for an inning at the end of the game. That being said, I don’t think it will happen.
