Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

Another gem from Bisher. State a theory, give background info, do nothing to argue your case, and then ramble about unrelated subjects to close out the article.

The premise this time: The Wainwright and Texeira trades cost us our shot at the postseason. Enjoy.

This guy is a fucking moron

pardon my language, please. That was just the first thing that came to my mind after reading that pathetic attempt of an article.

Ha I loled. Does he even write about anything else?

by acie4mvp on Oct 4, 2009 10:36 PM EDT reply actions

Oh good lord. Andrus and Wainwright would NOT have made a single difference on this team. Our pitching was tops in the majors, so Wainwright’s presence wouldn’t have done anything, and our SS was one of the best in the league with a bigger and better bat than Evlis’.

Bisher just needs to ride off into the sunset and hope a train doesn’t hit him on the way out.

Adam Wainwright wouldn’t have made a difference? Are you kidding?

He’s a top of the rotation pitcher who was signed for $2.6 MM this year. If you have him that’s one less starting pitcher you have to bring it for big money, which frees up the money needed to improve the offense.

by Lennox on Oct 5, 2009 3:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Thats a good argument. Maybe Bisher should have put it in the article.

Bisher is senile and a fool in general, but does he really need to explain the value of a Cy Young contender who is signed to a cheap contract?

by Lennox on Oct 5, 2009 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions

No, but when your argument...

contains everything but that, it seems a little strange.

by Mr. Sanchez on Oct 5, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Financially, sure. But performance-wise, it wouldn’t have.

And what bat, exactly would we have brought in? Pat Burrell?

Probably Dunn…

Did this idiot really write this crap:

Marquis, winner of 15 games at Denver — after being passed around to the Cubs and Cardinals — wasn’t popular with the brass. But waste a 15-game winner because he’s quirky?

Under Wren’s care, some good deals were made, and some not so good. He invested heavily in Kenshin Kawakami, the good-natured Japanese, who has since fallen from grace — into the bullpen. Derek Lowe cost even more, and true, he found a way to win 15 times, but his earned-run average outweighed his value, by a bunch.

He says that we should have kept Marquis because he won 15 games, then he dismisses signing Derek Lowe, even though he won 15 games….

We should start a website that is entitled FFB.com

My favorite comment from that article is this one:

Braves are done. They will not win the division nore make the playoffs next year. All fingers should be pointing to Wren and Schurholz just like this article suggests. These trades basically set the franchise back years. I hope Schurholz AND Wren retire with Cox. Adios.

Gosh, people are dumb.

Bisher is pathetic.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur

A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

I had seats in the club section for Tuesday nights game, and you could see right into the pressbox. There was old Furman, sitting on the front row. Chip Caray, Carroll Rogers, Mark Bowman, and many others, all had had laptops in front of them. Furman had a few sheets of paper, no laptop.

Couldn’t the AJC get a intern to proofread this. Or maybe a middle schooler.

I honestly do feel bad reading Furman. It’s sad what happens to people when they get old, and to see it play out as a “rambling old sportswriter” cliche makes it even worse.

And Kawakami, the good natured Japanese.

At least he didn’t say Chinaman.

I half expected a Mr. Burns/Joe DiMaggio

“apparently they’ve started allowing ethnics into the league” remark somewhere in there. Maybe it’s good we traded Saltalamacchia after all.

That's not Furman Bisher...

with no mention of Bobby Jones, or even Ty Cobb, Warren Spahn or some other player who is dead/long since retired, I fail to believe that article was written by the old man. Not enough curmudgeon in it, besides Furman still has his side gig taking all his time.

I love how 10 homers and an 894 OPS out of Marrerro's whopping 60 starts meant "more dilemma than offense"

Also, is this a sentence?

Five, mind you, starting pitcher, a catcher with long-range value, a shortstop now among the finest in the other league, Elvis Andrus, and maybe best of them all, the relief pitcher named Neftali Feliz.

Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

I see one subject, several nouns renaming the subject with prepositional phrases used to described said predicate nouns but no verbs…so, nope. Not a sentence!
