McGwire gives me hope
Hey ya'll - i've brought this up before but didnt hear much about it. Or, rather, dont remember hearing much about it. Its something i've been thinking about for a long while, ever since Chip helped Mac with his swing a few years back. I bring it up now because its been hard to hear about ANYTHING else in St. Louis than the new batting coach, but also b/c its the offseason (Yankees suck).
Do you think Chipper could, would, or should be our future batting coach?
I personally think he should. I also think that if Bobby was a bit younger and had more on a contract, Chip for sure WOULD. Right now, given the new hirings and changing face of the front office, I'm not so sure.
But my deep down gut (heart) feeling thinks (hopes) that in the next several years, we'll see Chip as batting coach and Smoltz as pitching coach.

Seconded
Been saying that for at least a year now. I also think there is no one better suited than The Professor to succeed Bobby, but I don’t know what it would take to coax him out of retirement. But I think you’re right on the money, Chip is more qualified than most to come back as a hitting coach. I’d love to see it happen.

Might be wishful thinking, but I’d be happy if Smoltz would come back to the organization and Chipper remain in some capacity.
Whether it’s a hitting or pitching coach or something else.

You have to have something to start with.
I mean, who do you think he is? Leo Mazzone?

Yeah....
so was Rudy “supposed to be the best batting coach who ever existed” Jaramillo. Frenchy can withstand even the best instruction.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

jaramillo just signed...
for 3 yrs/$2.42 million, according to ESPN., and made $650,000 last year.
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=4581458
Based on that, I’d assume most make 6 figures, with the best getting $500,000-$1,000,000.
