Where is Heyward?
Jason Heyward left the game Saturday after just one AB and hasn't played since. Has anyone heard anything about why he has been absent from the linup the past 3 games? I was thinking maybe he is sick with the flu or some other illness, but the fact that he left in the middle of the game makes me think he may have sustained some sort of injury. If so, hopefully its just something minor.

Not sure
when I saw him play last week, he stumbled going around 1B after ripping a double. He was kinda shaking his leg when he stopped on 2nd, but he stopped after a few seconds. He continued to play the rest of the game and then 2 more that week, so I don’t think it’s the knee. If it was anything crazy like a tear or bad sprain, im sure we would’ve heard something already.
Im personally worried about Freddie Freeman. 0-5 w/ 4Ks today. In a game where 7 HRs were hit, he didn’t get a single hit. I’ve never been that crazy about the kid, and he definately needs to start hitting in the AFL.

Heyward is at home watching the new southpark.
Hes gonna take off until monday, cuz he wants to see the new Curb Your Enthusiasm also. With all of these TV shows, u could understand why he’d need a few days off here and there.

Is anybody else a tiny but worried about all of these seemingly minor injuries for Heyward?

It does make me wonder a little, but the reality is that he’s only 20 years old and has this huge body that’s still growing and filling out. He’s basically like a fawn just sprawling around with nothing but arms and legs. I think in a couple of years when all the growing is done the nagging little injuries are going to disappear. And then, what’s really scary, is he’ll be 100% coordinated. Watch out National League.

Not really. That lanky body type is likely contributing in part to the injuries.
The thing that concerns me about these minor wear-n-tear injuries is how he will handle them when he makes that big jump in games played next year. I don’t view it as a long term concern but I think its one thing that could prove a minor problem in his transition to the majors.

i wonder if
the injuries are really that bad? I mean, since he’s 20 and playing in a fall league, im sure the Braves made sure to protect Jason so he doesn’t seriously hurt himself. But if this was a meaningful MLB game, would he be playing?

good point...
some of these injuries he might be wanting to play through, but the club exercises extreme caution.

Thats a good thought. Though, it could have a similar effect of the organization forcing him to miss some games in the first half of the season. Either way, if this is the rather benign chink in Heyward’s armor, he’s doing great

I agree that it really in no way diminishes his star, and I think part of it is the Braves just being cautious, as they should be. And I didn’t really think about him just growing into his body, so let’s hope its just a phase he works through as he grows
