What's in a name?

I have no idea why I thought of this now, or even at all, but why not? What's the reason behind your name? Some of ours are pretty self explanatory, ie. mine- clearly I'm a Braves fan from NY. Others, like The Keith Lockhart Era probably have nothing to do with the person behind the computer and were based on something else. So, what about you guys? Where did your name come from?

Keith Lockhart played for the Braves from my age 12-17...

And his Braves career coincides with a lot of my favorite memories growing up watching and going to Braves game. Plus he was left-handed like myself and in middle school I had a penchant for cheering “C’mon Keeeeith” in my strident, loud North Carolina accent, both at the the TV and in person whenever possible.

Keith Lockhart was an outstanding guy. I got his autograph a couple of times when he was with the Braves and he always signed anything I handed him. He genuinely felt lucky to be in the bigs and felt giving back to the fans was a huge part of things. Great choice of a guy to like.

I remember Skip telling a story...

about Lockhart delivering pizzas all through the minor leagues until he finally got his shot in the bigs… working his ass off until he got his chance, at an older age than most players will make their debuts. I’ve never heard a bad thing about him and CB, your words gel with everything else I’ve heard about the man. Plus, what a sweet and compact little lefthanded swing, eh?

I loved Keith. To me, he’s the best bench player in Atlanta history. If we had a guy every year we could count on for pinch hits like we could count on him, man things would be nice.

He did, I was at that game, so sweet! It just cleared the right field fence, landing on the tin roof with a loud ‘clang.’

I so though we were going to win that series sigh, instead I had to hear about it from all of my friends who are SF Giants fans, assholes….

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. sometimes I think God cursed me with this last name just for kicks. Or because he enjoys watching people tripping over their own tongues, I dunno.

My SN is a blissfully shortened version of an old SN, and being the simpleton that I am I try to use the same tag everywhere so I’m not jumbling nicknames. It doesn’t have any direct bearing on the Braves, unfortunately, though I may retcon it as a tribute to JJ.

My last name is KREKE and it is not pronounced like it is spelled. Very helpful in screening telemarketers isn’t it? What nationality is Hjort?

I share this last name with our #3 third base prospect Jordan Kreke. For those wondering how to pronounce it its more like ‘Kray-key’. Its like replacing the
‘fish’ in crayfish with ‘key’. Its a very rare last name over here in the States so I was shocked when we drafted a Kreke.

Mine is a combination of several things.
1. I wore 18 when I played high school football and baseball. I still grab it for softball and when I coach my kids baseball teams.
2.The Joe Gibbs Racing #18 was my car in NASCAR for years (and I still like Kyle, but Denny Hamlin has become my favorite driver since he broke in in 2005).
3. When Ryan Klesko broke in with the Braves, he quickly became my favorite player.
4. A former boss threw the nickname at me back in ’97 and it stuck. I just like the spelling with a Y better, and it makes me think of Klesko.

Shouldn't Reid Gorecki get a shot in RF before that Heyward kid everybody talks about?

I wanted to trade Andruw back when we were out of contention and could’ve actually got some value for him.

Here are Pujols's stats: 1.000/1.000/4.000/5.000. That's right. He is batting a thousand, with a thousand OBP (naturally), and every hit has been a home run, and thus his OPS is a perfect 5.000.

So are the stories about the Masons true?

by justincredubil02 on Oct 21, 2009 11:53 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hmm....

A mason’s involvement in the hierarchy of the society depends on his degree, therefore, his interaction and first hand knowledge of the alleged stories would be without legitimacy unless he was a confirmed higher degree. There are many stories involving the masons and I’m not sure in which you refer. Any specific stories plausibility becomes moot as the means to that end will inevitably never be legitimized by factual proof.

Being a Mason is not a secret to hide. Your affiliation is openly known but what business is handled in the Temple stays in the Temple. Doors open that were once shut if you follow the path laid before you.

Despite being a 5th generation Mason; the secret society numerical reference in my name has nothing to do with being a FreeMason. It is possible to be a part of like minded societies simultaneously. Some societies only confirm the Oath upon their members death.

I will tell you this………there are NOT a dozen families controlling all world events since the Knights Templar. Very powerful families are connected through secret societies and have aided one another in creating wealth but they by no means control world events. The world is to flat now for this to be a feasible task to accomplish.

Mr. Glavine #47

I am a soft-tossing Southpaw who, despite those five inconsequential 20-win seasons, always played second fiddle to some glasses-wearing nerd who used to play for the Bears and has less postseason wins than me. I am also proof why players should never, ever go back to their ex-(team). You go back, there is a great honeymoon period, then they go behind your back (after they said that they had changed) and the next moment you’re on the street, thrust into that cold world of free agency.

long story short- I lived in MO for the majority of my childhood (ie, preteen) years, so I was a bit young for college sports, but I do tend to follow them over anyone else. 2 (?) years ago when it was them vs. Kansas in football and the winner basically went to the title game i was pulling for them hard. So I don’t define a fan, per-say, but I do love Mizzou.

I remember being so pumped for the big12 champ, just to get emberassed on nat’l TV by the sooners.

I live in New Orleans, and among the famous streets here, there’s one called Tchoupitoulas Street. It’s pronounced “Chop-i-tou-las” (just like it looks, of course…). So I was trying to work in the Tchoup (“Chop”) part into something like “Tomahawk Tchoup” or “Talking Tchoup” or something, but everything was either taken or waaay too long. So I settled on Tchoup.

I’m terrible at thinking of clever nick/screen names, and no one’s ever given me a (publicly usable) nickname, except my paternal grandfather. He pretty much never called anyone by their given name. My middle name is Elizabeth, which was also his mother’s name. But in his southern drawl, it always came out “Lizziebeth”. I never knew if he cared about baseball or not, but we shared a love of collecting coins, and he always seemed to have faith in me in whatever I did. So I guess it’s kind of a tribute to him. Or I’m just lazy.

Suck It, Trabek!

"My team of nine guys who hit like Albert Pujols and never ever bunt just beat your team with one Shane Victorino 472 to 3."

I heart boobs!

People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

Shuck it long……and shuck it hard.

"My God! Good news fans, the Braves are showing signs of life for the first time in weeks. As a matter of fact, they appear to be beating the crap out of each other."

That’s a personal favorite. Whenever my family watches Jeopardy! I tend to wager Texas with a dollar sign.

I just can’t wait to see the logo. And some AA baseball only an hour and a half away.

I'll let you know

If and when I come up to see the Flying Squirrels. The name alone is worth the trip.

There are so many things I want to see. The logo, the mascot, what kind of plush toys they have for the kids. The only real downside is it’s all going to be happening in the Diamond, which is barely fit to piss in, much less play baseball in.

This may be true, but god dammit, it’s a venue with a ton of great memories for me.

Oh, me too. I’ve gotten to see a ton of great baseball there. Got to meet Dale Murphy there. Met a few hundred future Braves there. Got to see an outfielder pitch and take a line drive off his ass that broke his jock strap. Saw a 17 inning game with three rain delays that lasted 8 hours. Watched Star Wars on the field. Got to see the team with the Championship in 07.

Tons of great stuff, but still, pisshole.
