Atlanta Braves Winter League Recap: 10/14
Scottsdale 3, Peoria 1 - 10 Innings
- J. Heyward 1-4 2B, K
- F. Freeman 0-3 BB, K
- B. Hicks 0-4 2K
- J. Lyman 2IP 3H 1R 1BB 2K
- L. Hyde 1IP 1H 0R 1BB 1K
- C. Kimbrel 1IP 0H 0R 2BB 0K
Jason Heyward has 3 hits so far with all three of them being doubles. Not a bad start for the top prospect. The rest of our hitters did not fair as well going a combined 0-7. Our pitching has been pretty solid so far in Arizona with only Jeff Lyman allowing an earned run (he did start this game even though he only pitched 2 innings). Craig Kimbrel is still struggling to command the strike zone but he keeps finding ways out of it. I hope this isn't a habit we have to endure in the future.
Culiacan 0, Navojoa 2 - currently in the 8th
- M. Young 1-2 BB, SB(1)
This game is running behind my schedule so I probably won't get to finish the stats tonight. Matt Young appears to have picked up right where he left off in the regular season. This is his first hit so far since he started in the Mexican league, though he does have two walks. He could be a surprise contributor in the majors next season.

Matt Young
I’m high on him. I like what he did in 2009 with Mississippi. I think he’ll make it on someone’s big league roster by 2011, Braves or not.

I really like Matt
He’s a very nice guy in person as well. I hope he gets a shot in ST, he can play several positions all of the OF spots, 2B and even some 3B. He reminds me a bit of Craig Counsell without the ugly stance lol. Maybe he could be our 5th OF and backup McLouth when he needs a break.

Ha
of course all the Braves players would play tonight. Isn’t that just wonderful?

You gotta admit, that’s kind of funny. I mean, all the hitters and three of the four pitchers, how likely is that?

yeah, especially after I was so pumped last night…to see Mike Minor throw 2 innings and see Jason Heyward have a few ABs. I also love how one of the runners tested Jason’s arm tonight and was thrown out at 3rd, but last night all the guys were too scared to tag up or go 1st to 3rd. FML right?
I’ll probably go up to Phoenix to check out another game, just to see all the Braves players got sick or something and that none of ’em would be playing that day. That would be my luck.

He has been a starting pitcher in the past, so who knows. It could just be that because he was a reliever for most of the season the Braves want him to get more innings in the AFL and chose to have him work as a starter. Personally, I think he’s going to be better out of the bullpen.
