The Nationals are interviewing Roy Clark, the Braves Scouting Director
Uhhh...stay the f*ck away from Roy Clark. I'll personally donate $5 bucks to give him a raise to stay in Atlanta.
DO NOT LEAVE.

I don’t see why he’d leave to be somebody else’s scouting director. I expected this link to be that they were interviewing him for the GM position.

i was wondering the same thing
Why would you leave an A+ organization for the Natinals? So you have higher draft picks to work with?

Interesting. If I had to bet I’d say the Braves will match that offer.

According to Bowman,
there’s been speculation over the summer that Clark was going to part ways with the Braves. Did Frank piss him off? I dunno, but you’ve got to do whatever it takes to keep him on your staff.

there were...
rumors that Clark was upset over being overruled in the decision to draft Mike Minor. Who knows how much truth there was to the rumors but it could have been a contributing factor.

Between this and what spd pointed out, that seems about right. But, if he did end up with the Nationals, he’d find himself regretting it pretty quickly when he saw that all his scouting work in the US wasn’t being supplemented at all with scouting outside the US. The Nationals have one of the weakest systems as far as foreign talent.

i noticed that about the Natinals the other day
Do they have any hispanic or even non-american born players on their roster? Willingham, Dunn, Lannan, Zimmerman, Orr, Morgan, Guzman, Morse, McDougal, etc. etc. are all american born players.

Guzman is from the DR. Jesus Flores and Alberto Gonzalez are from Venezuela, Shairon Martis is from Curacao, but none of those guys were originally signed by the Nats.
Looking at their top 30 prospects entering the season, there’s only a handful of guys from outside the US, Martis and Luis Atlatano (Puerto Rico) weren’t originally signed by them, Adrien Nieto (Cuba) has been in the US since he was 8, and Esmailyn Gonzalez (or Juan Alvarez, from DR) probably won’t play again, so that leaves just Roger Bernadina (Curacao) originally signed by the Nats, and he just missed most of the season.
No, the Nats do not do well at signing foreign players.

thanks for clearing that up CB
yeah, I didn’t think so. The Braves used to be a pretty american-dominated team, but it seems like we’re really starting to develop some international talent, especially the young pitchers like Teheran and the Delgados.

I think our opening day roster had more countries represented (8) than any other team. I like that we get into places like Panama and Columbia and Australia more than other teams. And this new academy over in Spain is freaking awesome.
I see a lot of the Nats minor league teams and they’re just super white. A lot of the smaller market teams are, cause they just can’t compete for the worthwhile guys.

Just speculation, from me
But I wouldn’t be surprised if the people above Clark have been cutting the money spent on drafting/developing talent to avoid having to cut the payroll of the ML club because they belive that the team will be able to contend for a WS in the short term through the talent already in the system combined with free agents.
Someone like Clark, obviously, wouldn’t be happy about having his budget cut, and would be interested in going to a team that is dedicated to building through the system rather than grabbing free agents.
